Chabot College September, 1992 Course Outline for Physical Education 1 ADVANCED WRESTLING Catalog Description: PHED 1 – Advanced Wrestling 0.5 unit Study and practice of the advanced skills of the sport of wrestling. Practice of maneuvers requiring a high degree of wrestling skill or ability. Review and practice of fundamental skills, practice of advanced skills, such as: takedowns, double, single, high-crotch, ducks, drags, shucks, whizzer series, cross body ride series, stand up series and roll series. Prerequisites: A student should have competed on an interscholastic team to be eligible for this class. 2 hours per week. Prerequisite Skills: A student should have competed on an interscholastic team to be eligible for this class. Expected Outcomes for the Students: It is hoped that those students who have the interest and ability to perform the advanced skills of this class may extend their knowledge and ability by competing in intercollegiate or intramural competition in wrestling. Further, the student should be able to apply the skills in a class situation for his enjoyment and personal satisfaction. It is also expected that the students in this class may appreciate the high degree of physical fitness that could be attained by competing individually in wrestling. Course Content: 1. Review and practice of basic fundamentals of wrestling. 2. Review and practice of advanced moves such as: a. Whizzer series b. Cross body ride series c. Stand up series d. Roll series e. Takedowns f. Singles g. High-crotch. h. Ducks i. Drags j. Shucks k. Double 3. Standing wrestling strategy and technique. 4. Counter wrestling strategy and technique. 5. Explanation and discussion of rules for college wrestling. 1 Chabot College Advanced Wrestling - PHED 1, Page 2 Methods of Presentation: The materials for the course are presented by verbal explanations, demonstrations and analysis by students and instructor. Students will spend a maximum amount of time in practice of advance moves. Wrestling films and individual correction will also be used in presenting the materials of this class. Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress: Students will be evaluated on their proficiency, attendance and on a final test of rules and strategy.
