Chabot College February 1994 Removed Fall 2006 Course Outline for Geology 12L INTRODUCTION TO OCEANOGRAPHY LAB Catalog Description: 12L - Introduction to Oceanography Lab Introduction to laboratory principles and techniques with emphasis on the physical marine environment. Prerequisite: Geology 12 (may be taken concurrently). 3 hours laboratory. Expected Outcomes for Students: Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to: 1. perform laboratory measurements using basic equipment; 2. recognize the major features of oceanographic charts; 3. perform simple tasks of navigation; 4. make bathymetric contours and sections; 5. measure chemical and physical properties of sea water; 6. evaluate data for tides, tidal currents, waves, and currents; 7. perform measurements on sediments and sediment deposition.
