Catalog Description:
5 – Art History – Renaissance to Modern
3 units
History of Western art from Early Renaissance through High Renaissance, Mannerism, Baroque,
Neoclassicism, Romanticism, Realism, Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, and 20th Century
developments of American art. (Formerly ART 5; may not receive credit if ART 5 has been
completed.) 3 hours.

Expected Outcomes for Students:
Upon completion of the course the student should be able to:
1. identify works of art by their technical process;
2. interpret the various ways in which works of art have been used as vehicles of expression;
3. explain the significant art achievements from the Renaissance through Modern Europe as
well as of 20th century developments of American art;
4. explain artistic achievements in relation to later developments and to the present.
