Chabot College September 1994 Course Outline for Art 41 APPLIED GRAPHIC DESIGN Catalog Description: 41 - Applied Graphic Design 3 units Application of concepts in layout and design of printed products. Solving graphic design problems through creative manual and computer techniques. Design principles applied to specific exercises in creation of corporate signage, brochures, posters, and packages for mass printing production. Prepress considerations and inter-relations between illustration, design, and type. Prerequisite: Art 40 completed with a grade of "C" or higher. 2 hours lecture, 4 hours studio. Expected Outcomes for Students: Upon completion of the course, the student should: 1. experience practical problems in layout and design, which are designed to develop skills in the creation, execution, and presentation of the commercial graphic product; 2. develop further skills in the production of an appreciation for graphic media; 3. develop a greater understanding of the position of graphic designer, particularly as related to art, advertising, and business.
