Prior to joining Cassels Brock as an associate, she was both a summer and articling student at the firm. During her articles, Kate was involved in a wide variety of litigation matters, including franchise law litigation, solicitor negligence claims, class actions, insolvency proceedings and securities litigation. Kate also worked on a number of share and asset purchases along with lending and real estate transactions. Kate received her J.D. from the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University in 2014, where she was awarded the Alistair Fraser Award for achieving the highest academic standing in Legal Ethics & Professional Responsibility in 2014. She graduated from Queen’s University with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in 2010, with a major in Political Studies and a minor in Art History. In the summer of 2012, Kate obtained a certificate in International Business Law as part of the Queen’s Global Law Program at Herstmonceux Castle in Sussex, England. At law school, Kate received an Honours grade for her second year compulsory moot and was nominated for the Smith Shield, an internal moot and award. Kate represented Dalhousie at the 2014 Corporate/Securities moot, held in Toronto, where her team’s facta were awarded second place out of 13 participating law schools and placed fourth overall. Kate Co-Chaired the law school’s Community Outreach Society, which strengthens ties between law school students and the Halifax community. In 2013, the society won the university-wide Most Charitable Society Award. Kate has also participated in projects with Pro Bono Students Canada and volunteered with St. George’s YouthNet, an after-school program for at-risk youth in Halifax’s North End.
