Doug Horner (DH) distributed agenda and led project discussion. Minutes were
distributed.
Central Utility Plant
Bob Collins made a special presentation on the Central Utility Plant project.
The following points were made:
The loop trench has now commenced construction and barrier fences are going
up.
The blue areas on the plan are the areas that are to be fenced off.
All buildings will retain access but some doors may be closed off.
Phase 1 of the loop is intended to maintain IT linkage to 1100/1200/1300 after the
demolition of buildings 400, 600 & 700.
The theater access route between buildings 1100 and 1200 will be blocked off.
The fire access path between 800 and 900 will remain open.
Safety is our primary focus in erecting the barricades. Although it creates some
inconvenience it keeps pedestrians separated from construction.
When trenches are opened up pathways will be plated for access.
Sawcutting of concrete is ongoing.
There will be some noise during these activities.
Itemized List Discussion:
- The Central Utility Plant (CUP) project team is having safety meetings every
Monday and Wednesday at 8:15am at the project offices.
- The CUP team is having meetings with individual groups as needed to respond
to concerns, i.e. Arts and Humanities and DSPS.
- Signage is an ongoing project and we are trying to accommodate all reasonable
needs.
- If immediate safety concerns are noted please contact Project Team or Campus
Safety.
- Parking Lot “J” will be closed for about 3 days in the next several weeks.

Facilities Committee Minutes
October 11, 2007 – pg. 2
NOTE: Subsequent safety concerns regarding pedestrian paths from Lot “J” have
caused the parking lot to be closed until the construction safety fence can be
relocated.
- Roger N. requested that portable toilets be provided on site by next February
when Buildings 400/600/700 are demolished. We will need to resolve the proper
location to allow access to both users and pump trucks. Roger also would like to
communicate to his future users regarding parking lot closures and options.
Chabot is still working on securing optional off-site parking.
- The trees outside Child Care center drip sap on staff cars.
- Dr. Carlson reported that the Building 1700/1800 project is being considered for
$9m funding by the state. If that happens, the District will need to provide a
matching $9m. Currently the Measure B budget allocations do not fund this
match. When the budgets were being created it was thought that there was little
possibility of this project getting state funding therefore the campus did not budget
for it. Since then, it appears that the state will fund the project. This may cause
the campus to consider reallocating budgets to create the necessary matching
funds in order to capture the state funding.
- Diane Z. will be delivering a list specifying which rooms in buildings 300/500 get
chalkboards and which get markerboards.
