December 10, 2009 12 Noon, Room 1506 In Attendance: See sign-in sheet Meeting Minutes: Minutes from previous meeting were distributed Special Reports: A. PE Complex Kelly Reynolds of SKW Architects presented the current status of the remodel of the PE complex, bldgs. 2500-2900. Landscape design features were addressed. The entry to the Athletic Fields from Lot B will be treated as a major gateway portal. Discussion of removal of trees along the south side of 2800 and at the gateway portal was noted. Kelly noted that twice as many trees were being planted as being removed. Conifers removed will be replaced with deciduous species. Aesthetic issues in tree planting were addressed. The PE Renovation will be a 2-year, 6-phase process. Racquetball courts will be removed entirely. Trish suggested that Chabot Foundation could raise funding for deferred landscaping near Concession building and track. B. Faculty Office Study – continued from 11-12-09 Doug Horner addressed the Faculty Office Study that was distributed at the previous meeting. He noted that if all office spaces in bldgs. 1100, 1500, and 2000 were remodeled and offices were enlarged to the 100 s.f. campus standard, we would lose about 25 offices. There are currently fewer empty offices in the IOB at present than this number. Dave Fouquet brought up the idea of a new IOB West on the site of either 1500 or 2000 or the open area between the two bldgs. behind 1700, as was in the master plan. He noted that a new building might also house a large, tiered lecture hall to replace B600. Trish Shannon replied that B600 was never filled to the 160-seat capacity and that the new lecture room #804 at 110 seats is a better size. Dave also noted a need to not forget the offices that were NOT remodeled upstairs in 2200. Mark Stephens suggested that we resist creating non-standard offices on campus; there should not be, Chabot College Facilities and Sustainability Committee Minutes Page 2 “haves and have-nots.” It was agreed by the committee that more discussion on this should ensue after the IOB is occupied, the Villas are vacated, and new faculty are hired after the SERP incentive. At this point the College will have a better idea on where we are with Faculty office space. C. Digital Displays Doug Horner reported on the ongoing review of Digital Display Monitors for the newly remodeled buildings. District and College IT have chosen Tightrope as the preferred system. A handout was supplied by DH to the committee with the specifications. D. Faculty Innovation Network Marcia Corcoran brought Tom DeWit and Sean McFarland lead faculty in the Faculty Inquiry Network (FIN) to present their need to be housed in the bldg. 100 project. The hope was that the space currently occupied by Media Services would be vacated with Media going into bldg. 300. Marcia confirmed that this had been vetted by Yulian Ligioso. The issue with FIN was more the need to be in the building and the occupation of the Media Services space did not necessarily have to house this program. Gary Carter indicated a need for the Television Studio to have more space in the project also. It was affirmed by the group that FIN should be included in this project, however their location and the location of the space needed by the TV Studio would have to be assessed by Steinberg Architects in the planning process. It was recommended that Gary Carter join that project to give input on the needs of the TV Studio in this project. E. Journalism Relocation Gary Carter also submitted a request for the Journalism program to relocate back into their former space up in 2300 when the Aspire program vacates to the CSSC. No other program has yet to put in a request for use of that space. Doug Horner indicated this reinforced the need for the Facilities committee to develop a small group to study issues of secondary effects from the vacating of spaces that were not originally designed for in the original Master Plan. All thought this to be a good idea, and something to address going forward. Project Status Update: An updated Project Status report was issued. Rumor Control: Dave Fouquet asked if it was true that at LPC Jeannine Methe spent $8,000 to improve the view from her new office window. Doug Horner replied that he did not know. Other Matters Initiated: It was recommended that the Facilities Committee compile a Secondary Effects list of small projects. Three projects that were put forward: Add a wall between Rooms 1102 and 1103, remove a wall between Rooms 2003 and 2005, move the Journalism program into Building 2300. Chabot College
