Introduction
Within the framework of the NECE Initiative, the Federal Agency for Civic Education/bpb is
organising the second workshop of its focus group on “Hard-to-reach learners and youth”. As
a follow-up to the first workshop, which took place in October 2013 in Berlin, experts and
practitioners from different European countries will meet in Leicester to discuss transnational
exchange and cooperation in this field. The first results of the recently set up working groups
will also be discussed.
NECE is an initiative for the Networking of Citizenship Education in Europe. A variety of
resources and activities have been developed by NECE to encourage exchange and cooperation between academics and practitioners in the field of citizenship education across
Europe.
Aims of the Focus Group Meeting
The focus group meeting aims to:
•
review the progress of the focus group; what we have achieved so far and where
we want to be by summer 2015.
•
offer a platform to coordinate the focus group and discuss its conceptual
framework and goals.
•
explore potential projects and offer project teams time and space to discuss the
projects and share progress.
•
offer time and space to create synergies between the project teams.
•
prepare the focus group’s contribution to the NECE Conference “1914-2014:
Lessons from History? Citizenship Education and Conflict Management”, in
Vienna, Austria.
•
offer a marketplace for participants to showcase their projects & research.
•
explore funding opportunities for future work.
The workshop will be moderated by Benjamin Wunsch-Grafton and Khalid Mahmood.
