Centennial Honors College Western Illinois University Undergraduate Research Day 2012 Poster Presentation Off-Campus Student Housing Satisfaction in Macomb, IL Tyler Livermore Faculty Mentor- Don Johnson Accounting and Finance Landlords are constantly looking for new ways to improve the overall satisfaction level of their tenants, whether it is by adding assets or reducing the cost of rent. Various amenities, such as a swimming pool, tanning bed, or workout facility can add to a property’s value and satisfaction level. Still, landlords are faced with difficult decisions when deciding on ways to increase housing demand since there can be risk involved with adding pricey amenities. The purpose of this research is to measure student satisfaction with their off-campus housing and to identify what factors are associated with satisfaction. A housing satisfaction survey will be administered in WIU classrooms with the professors’ permission. The data will then be analyzed using computer software to break down different factors effecting satisfaction. A few factors being analyzed are number of roommates, Roommate satisfaction, number of bedrooms, and closeness to campus. This research should give others a better understanding of what satisfies college students in terms of housing qualities and amenities.
