For our new members, Jane explained the history of the search for common course numbers that resulted in the C-ID. Jane said that she is still researching PSY 8 and PSY 33 to find a CSU that has articulated them as lower division major preparation. She recommends that they be moved to List B until a match is found. Wayne supported this move. He explained that there are options on the TMC template that he chose not to use because we don’t have an audience for those courses in our program. Vote on this program will be conducted at the next meeting. Modified courses need to be presented and approved at the same meeting. 6. Colloquia Jane led a discussion on colloquia, asking whether they are really courses and what purpose the serve. Points addressed included how they came about, whether they are a hold-over from ISLS, whether they are used to circumvent the curriculum process. It was noted that there is an active colloquium being offered in the Spring schedule which didn’t come through the committee. Curriculum Committee 2/26/13, Page 3 7. Administration of Justice AA-T William Hanson presented. He has developed three new 3-unit courses (ADMJ 40, Juvenile Procedures; ADMJ 80, Criminal Court Process; and ADMJ 85, Introduction to Forensics) to round out the program. There is considerable demand for these courses, and they are needed to remain competitive with other programs in the Bay Area. In answer to a question about the existing AA degree, William described his vision for the program, revising the AA degree to be “pre-law” to meet an unmet student need. He said many of our students have an interest in legal careers but there is no clearly identified pathway beginning in community college. The AS-T would be vocational, leading toward employment in law enforcement. William would like to develop our offerings into the premier Administration of Justice program in the East Bay. 8. Geography AA-T Eric Schultz led the committee through a review of the proposal. One course (Geography 5, World Regional Geography) has been modified to meet C-ID descriptors. Vote on this program will be conducted at the next meeting. 9. Good of the Order There was no curriculum discussion at this morning’s Deans’ Council. 10. The business meeting was adjourned at 3:50 PM. Jane remained in the room to discuss ideas on ways to approve remaining proposals. Next meeting: March 5, 2013. kk 2-27-13 c:\documents\word\curric\2012-13\2-26-13.min.doc
