Schindler Renovation DEMOLITION PROGRESS December 2015 As you can see from the above pictures, demolition continues. The ceiling of the large lecture hall is now on the floor and the plaster and metal lathe is being sorted and hauled away for recycling and landfill. 75% of the material removed will be recycled to obtain our LEEDS Gold certification. The crew is working with auxiliary lighting and heating as both of those systems have been disconnected and removed from the building to be replaced by new. Below, to the left, is the IRTS lab stripped down to structural beams and walls; it will be expanded to include the former Dean’s office suite and opened up to the new GREAT room. Below, to the right, is third floor; we have truly said “Good-bye to the Pie”. The center section is wide open on both third and fourth floors. ( All photos taken by Amelia Holden-Mcmurray). Schindler Renovation DEMOLITION PROGRESS December 2015 Over Winter Break the crews will begin excavation to saw out part of the basement wall and remove the old heating and cooling systems. They will be pulling much of that out from the East side while students aren’t on campus. At our December 17th Owner/Architect/Contractor meeting it was reported that: • • • • • • Demo Level 4 is 96% Demo Level 3 is 90% Demo Level 2 is 60% Demo Level 1 is 70% Demo Level 6 Mechanical is 20% Demo Basement is 10% Above left, is Acting Dean Vickie Robinson, in her touring outfit, standing in what will become the office of the next Dean (she looks pretty happy about that!). To the right a group is pondering the view from what will become a “collaboration space” / “back office” for the Dean’s Suite, Advising, Teacher Education and the Department of Teaching offices. The Dean’s Suite people and the Renovation Committee members toured the building in December, and all faculty and staff will have opportunities to tour the project during Spring Semester. After Winter Break, Department Representatives and Department Heads will be meeting with Interior Designers regarding office furnishings. We will begin with 1st floor South and work our way up the building to get our furniture order together by Summer.
