BU Scholarships 2016-2017 Academic Year - Deadline for most awards is Friday, February 5, 2016 - 4:30 p.m. Important Comments to Applicants The Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania scholarships described in the following links will be awarded for the 20162017 academic year. In addition to meeting specific criteria, applicants are expected to have demonstrated good citizenship as members of the university community. Any references to financial need requires the student to have submitted the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov . Any references to satisfactory progress or academic good standing refers to the policies outlined in BU's Guide to Financial Aid available online at www.bloomu.edu/aid and the University Catalog. When grade point average (GPA) is a requirement, the "overall" cumulative GPA earned at Bloomsburg University during the fall 2015 semester prior to the scholarship application deadline will be used unless otherwise specified in the award criteria. All information submitted is subject to verification by the Financial Aid Office and may be shared with Financial Aid Committee members, university faculty, deans, and other administrators as well as award donors to the extent needed to process the scholarship application. ATTENTION NEW FRESHMEN & NEW TRANSFERS Unless designated as "Freshmen" OR "Transfer" under the "Category" column, all scholarships are available only to CURRENTLY ENROLLED BU students. Most new freshmen and new transfer student scholarships will be selected during the admissions process, no application is necessary. The Admissions Office will notify you by mail if you are a selected recipient during the admissions process. Application Forms and Deadlines Scholarship applications for the 2016-2017 Academic Year become available in December 2015 on MyHusky as a “To Do List” item, paper copies are also available in the Office of Financial Aid, Room 119 Student Services Center. Please Note: You must be currently enrolled at Bloomsburg University to obtain a scholarship application on MyHusky. Read the "Apply" column of the below scholarship listing links carefully to determine what application form is required! If anything other than the “Bloomsburg University Scholarship Application” is required, contact the appropriate department/individual listed under "Criteria" and "Apply" regarding other application forms and deadlines. Note: Some scholarships require no application because department faculty nominate and select recipients. Completing and Submitting the Application Form(s) Read the "Return To" column carefully. o If you are applying for several scholarships that are returned to the same professor/chairperson, you may list those specific scholarships (and only those scholarships) on one application form and submit that application to the professor/chairperson listed. o If you are applying for several scholarships where the return to is for different professors/chairpersons, a separate application must be submitted to each professor/chairperson, listing only the scholarship they select. o EXAMPLE: If you are applying for the “Ann J. Jarrett Scholarship”, “Charlotte Hess Memorial Scholarship”, and “Viola Family Scholarship”. “Ann J. Jarrett Scholarship” and “Charlotte Hess Memorial Scholarship” both get returned to Dr. Starkey therefor they can be listed together on one application form and handed in to Dr. Starkey. The “Viola Family Scholarship” however gets returned to Dr. Shapeero, this scholarship should be listed on a separate application form and handed in to Dr. Shapeero. General Category: If you are applying for one or more awards in the "General" category, which list Ms. Kern, Financial Aid Office, as the "Return to" contact person, you may simply write "General" in the Scholarship Name section of the application. The Financial Aid Committee will consider you for all of the “General” scholarship that you may qualify for. You do not have to list each general scholarship name individually. Type or print legibly in ink, leave no items blank, attach all additional information/recommendations required by the scholarship criteria, sign and date each application. DEADLINE: Submit your completed application(s) to the appropriate department/individual listed under "Return To" in the following links by February 5, 2016 -- 4:30 p.m. IMPORTANT: All scholarship information MUST be submitted to the appropriate contact person prior to the scholarship deadline. Incomplete or unsigned applications and applications missing references/attachments required by the award criteria will not be considered! Recipient Selection & Notification Professors/chairpersons will recommend a recipient and two alternates for each scholarship to the Financial Aid Committee throughout the spring. The Financial Aid Committee will select awards listed under the "General" category unless otherwise noted. Recipients will be notified by the Bloomsburg University Foundation of their awards by mail in early June. Along with the notification you will receive information regarding the donor luncheon and the required thank you letter. o Note: Aramark is not managed by the BU Foundation, these recipients will receive a notification letter from the appropriate department. Freshmen & New Transfer recipients will receive notification of their scholarships first by the Admissions Office during the admissions process, the BU Foundation will then follow up with their notification and thank you letter information in June.
