1. Athletic Training Report – Don Bishop
a. Don Bishop (Head Athletic Trainer) and Travis Stueve (Football Athletic Trainer)
gave a presentation on concussions. Don distributed a copy of UNI’s policy on
concussions and the NCAA guidelines; UNI’s policy exceeds NCAA requirements;
Don and Travis discussed departmental statistics ( how many concussions, what
sports, how does it happen), evaluations, and return to play.
2. Golf Missed Classes – John Bermel
a. John discussed the rationale for the golf team missing classes; can only schedule meets
on weekdays due to course availability; discussed process by which a member travels;
typical meet is Sunday-Monday-Tuesday; also noted that golf has high APR, men’s
team does not offer scholarships, and both teams perform fundraising for travel.

4. Athletic Director Report – Troy Dannen
a. Recommends each coach attend a future IAAC meeting as a guest speaker.

of academic and social reasons; he will still have access to academic support if he
chooses; Troy left open the possibility that he could rejoin the team if he addresses his
academic and social issues.
5. Compliance Officer Report – Ashley Shells
a. “FAFSA Fun Days” are scheduled for Feb. 19-21; compliance office is closed and
dedicates time to helping student athletes complete FAFSA; if NCAA makes $2,000
stipend need-based, student-athletes will need to complete a FAFSA to qualify;
department is encouraging all student-athletes to complete a FAFSA because they may
qualify for aid in addition to athletic aid.
6. Academic Advising – Stacia Greve / Kara Park
a. 74% response rate for professors who returned midterm grade requests; 22-A’s and 7F’s; also serve as notification of missed classes.
7. Faculty Athletics Representative – Lisa Jepsen

his remarks, which were well-received (in general) by faculty.

the same sport.
c. Previous issue with professor whose syllabus conflicted with University policy has
been resolved and the syllabus updated.
8. Old Business – no report
9. New Business

encourage students to attend; Kara/Stacia will remind them as well.
