2. Carnegie Report Calls for Coordinated
Strategy to Put Talented Teachers in Every
School The Elusive Talent Strategy: An Excellent
Teacher for Every Student in Every School. The
report outlines a number of strategies for
preparing teachers better
Highlights include –the need for excellent
teachers from a strong pool; hiring top level
graduates into schools; on the job professional
development; 3-4 years with effective teachers
can close achievement gaps. (Student
performance-based measures however may
force an uneasy path without involving parentsmsf’s comment)
3. New College Science Prize
The Science prize for Inquiry-Based Instruction
to highlight outstanding modules for teaching
introductory college science has been
established. It should require 8-50 hours of
student effort. If you are nominating your own
module, please use the application form.
Applications are due by 15 April, 2011.
4. TTU-TTUHSC System Cancer Symposium
Cancer researchers from the Lubbock, El Paso,
Abilene and Amarillo campuses will share their
research and plan for the future at an annual
cancer research symposium to be held and
hosted by the TTUHSC in Amarillo from April
March 5,
2011
29-May 1, 2011. Nobel laureate Dr. Al Gilman
will present the keynote address.

This is a U.S. - Japan joint program coordinated
by the National Science Foundation and the
Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).
Proposals submitted in response to this
solicitation must represent joint projects
involving both US and Japanese research
groups. JST and NSF will jointly manage the
proposal review and award process.

ANIMAL HEALTH–MORRIS ANIMAL FOUNDATION
VETERINARY FELLOWSHIP FOR ADVANCED STUDY
Morris Animal Foundation is currently funding
approximately 300 health studies that benefit
companion animals and wildlife around the
world. Pfizer Animal Health (PAH) is a leading
research-based producer of veterinary vaccines
and pharmaceuticals. To continue these efforts
into the future, Morris Animal Foundation and
PAH recognize the need to increase the number
of veterinary researchers who can advance
animal health and welfare. Thus, we are seeking

academic partners to help in this endeavor. In
partnership with PAH, Morris Animal
Foundation is announcing an RFP to address the
growing shortage of veterinary researchers by
giving established scientists and veterinarians
financial support to pursue a veterinary degree
