We had a discussion about retreat. What dates are good and what do we want to cover.
YW- Take half day and look at constitution and do some planning. We did get some good information
from the town hall meeting at LPC. We discussed fund-raising activities, professional development and
class appreciation. Do some round tables, signing up for governance committees.
CP – Invite someone we want to talk to like the Chancellor.
GW-Typically it’s been a Friday morning and includes lunch.
DK – would like a print out of who the representatives are.
GW – Need to get reports from Classified attendee at committees.
CP-Classified Retreat October 15 from 9a.m.-1p.m Last year invited SEIU as well. We may invite Dr. Irvin
to speak to us or another speaker.
GW-Elections are coming up in March?
NM – Parking information. Students have come up to me about day to day actions and cried to me that
there is not enough parking. 50 parking spots in A and 40 in D? are open. Many small cars on low
emissions list can park in G lot. I will try to find out about this. Disabled students with valid id can park
anywhere.
CG – Should have cards from Security to put on dash that allows you to park in low emissions spots.
JW-It might help if students with special permits could park in the faculty lots.
RS-We really need to build a parking structure to take care of this. There just aren’t enough parking
places for students and they’re frustrated. Need to advocate for a parking structure in the next bond
measure.
NM- Emergency Prepared – Wednesday September 29 at 10 a.m. will have a fire drill. Have building
monitors assigned by their dean. Some people missed the training. Evacuation assembly areas will be
pointed out with signs in the future. Try to keep people out of the way of the solar panels but out of the
way of the fire personnel.
CG-Would make more sense to do this on a Flex day so it doesn’t disrupt classes.
GW-Want to see what really happens when students are here.
NM – Might be nice to have a precursor practice, so people have the mind set of what to do, sort of a
dress rehearsal. This is Frank Ramos’ domain. We had a lock down drill on campus and a lot of people
didn’t even know about it. Want to get people trained in first aid here. Training is free, maybe we just
need to publicize this better. Some instructors don’t take this seriously
CP- Flex day is the October 26th and need more voices in the planning. Suggested topics, Breakfast
(funding drastically reduced due to funding), general session-division reports, safety and security update
maybe, Morning sessions, 2nd hour of morning session-cognition and learning workshop/Cal PERS
sessions, lunch on your own and 2 afternoon sessions.
JW-What is notification of leave?
GW-People should notify us when they end their employment on the campus so we can cancel their
group-wise account, etc.
CP-SEIU-have some dates finally set for negotiations but still not firm, two dates in October. Have
surveys we want to get out to you. We are asking our rep Kaden to look at other college campus’
contracts. Class and Comp study – admin hasn’t finalized some things yet. Compensation part, don’t see
an end date on this. Maybe we can contribute towards the breakfast since the Pres office short of funds.
GC- Dues might go down because of the economic times. “The No Asshole Rule” - new book out by a
Stanford teacher is a good read. Dist takes 25% off our budget 1% from their salaries would save 9
classified jobs. They don’t hold to the same work ethic that we do and their salaries are over inflated.
We really need to vote this year to know who our leaders are. Safety issues should be linked; we should
all know what we are doing. This comp study is taking way too long. Labor meetings move so slowly. It’s
almost time to restate what our job duties are. Have to stop the board from making decisions in a closed
session. It would be good to get them to televise the meetings. Know your Weingarten rights.
Meeting adjourned 2:10 p.m.
