The Radical Party went through a (final) split in 1971, resulting in a centre-left (MGRS/MRG/PRG) and a centre-right party (Parti Radical Valoisien).
After a failed alliance with the Christian-Democrats in the Reforming Movement (RM), the Parti Radical Valoisien joined the UDF in 1978.

Founded in 1966 as a merge between the centerist Popular Republican Movement (MRP) and the conservative National Center of Independents and Peasants (CNIP).
The latter was initially split in 1962. CNIP had decided to leave de Gaulle's coalition, but ministers belonging to the liberal fraction of CNIP refused to leave the cabinet.
The ministers subsequently formed the group Independent Republicans (later the party FNRI and PR).

CDS was founded in 1969 by some Christian-Democrats from the Democratic Centre.
In 1976, CDS, CD and others (most notably CNIP and MRP) merged and formed the Democratic and Social Centre (Centre des démocrates sociaux, CDS).
CDS was a founding member of UDF in 1978.
