BMW Manufacture Training (Certificate of Achievement)
Rationale: Currently we offer an A.S. Degree in the BMW program. As a
result of ongoing talks with BMW of North America, and based on student /
employer feedback, we are proposing offering a Certificate of Achievement for
the BMW area. This decision is being made based on the excessive time to
completion for general education based courses, impacting students seeking
employment and completing the necessary requirements for BMW certification.
By allowing students to complete a Certificate of Achievement, and potentially
their BMW certifications, students will be able to obtain high demand positions
in BMW dealerships, and other employers, while completing their general
education requirements. (Kurt Shadbolt)
Discussion included:
 The high number of units
 The lack of general ed courses, and whether this is detrimental to
students.
(MS (Uchiyama/Klein and Leach) to approve the BMW certificate. The motion
carried: 5 aye; 2 nay; 2 abstentions.
6.
Good of the Order
Jane Church discussed how changes to courses such as Emergency Medical Services can
affect programs in multiple disciplines.
At this point, Jane Vallely joined the meeting and entered into the conversation. Wayne
conveyed changes that need to be made to the EMS outlines:
 Add a May not Receive Credit statement if the course has been taught before
with a different rubric or number.
 Separate Course Content into Lecture and Laboratory.
Jane Church has been working of submitting TMC degrees to the state.
Kaaren noted that there are a number of certificates that have been approved that she
cannot submit to the state because the authors have not followed through with narrative
and labor market information.
