However, a weather-hardened DSLAM is still vulnerable to physical damage and vandalism. Also, it still must be located near a cross-connect to transfer digital service onto the customer’s voice line. In response to this new technology, Emerson has developed the NetReach™ DSLAM XC series of enclosures. These enclosures integrate a protective, ventilated compartment for weather-hardened DSLAM electronics with a weather-sealed compartment for cross connect (XC) fields in a single enclosure. NetReach™ DSLAM XC cabinets simplify and reduce the cost of broadband deployment. Utilizing Emerson’s RLS and URLS insulation displacement connection (IDC) terminal blocks, the enclosures offer a proven track record for fast, dependable connections and years of service in the field. Description NetReach™ DSLAM XC series cabinets are available in two configurations: a top-and-bottom arrangement for pole mounting and a back-to-back configuration for pad mounting. Both configurations feature a free-breathing chamber for weather-hardened DSLAM electronics, and a separate sealed chamber for cross connect fields. Configurations to support AC-powered or line-powered DLSAMs are offered. Total cross connect pair capacities of the pole-mount units range from 400 to 800 pairs. Pad-mount pair capacities range from 400 to 1800 pairs. Initially NetReach™ DSLAM XC cabinets may be deployed to pass through voice phone service (POTS) to customers. Then, as customers subscribe to enhanced services, the service provider can change the arrangement of the cross connect jumpers to route the output of the DSLAM to those customers desiring enhanced services. Application The NetReach™ DSLAM XC enclosure is a serving area interface (SAI), generally deployed between the central office (CO) and customer distribution pedestals. Some units may be deployed in conjunction with remote terminal (RT) cabinets, thus locating them between the RT and the distribution pedestal. In general, hardened DSLAM units are configured with limited pair counts, making them best suited for deployment in rural or other areas with lower customer density. Protection against destructive weather, thermal, electrical, environmental and mechanical forces is vital to assuring the reliability and revenue-producing capability of your wireless and wireline networks NetReach™ DSLAM XC cabinets simplify and reduce the cost of broadband deployment. 5 5 5 6 6 6 4 7 Pad Mount Cross Connect Chamber 3 1 8 2 9 2 Pole Mount Cabinet 7 Pad Mount DSLAM Chamber 1 2 3 AC Load Center Pad Lockable Door Cross Connect Chamber 4 5 6 Equipment Chamber Either RLS Blocks or URLS Blocks Drop-Down Removable Panels 7 8 9 Fiber & Fiber Splice Storage Free-Breathing Ventilation Electronics Equipment 3 Dual-Function Cabinet Both pole-mount and pad-mount versions of the NetReach™ DSLAM XC Series enclosures combine two functions (DSLAM and cross connect) in a single cabinet. In the pole mount configuration, the DSLAM equipment is contained in a separate chamber above the XC. The cross connect fields are contained in a separate chamber at the bottom of the cabinet. In the pad-mount configuration, the chambers are back-to-back, with the cross connect chamber on the front side (to facilitate jumper wiring) and the DSLAM chamber on the back side. Cabinets are manufactured from mill-galvanized steel and protected with an off-white paint. Cross Connect Chamber The cross connect chamber in both pad and pole mount versions is a sealed chamber with a gasketed, lockable, weather-resistant door. Terminal block fields are chain-supported, drop-down and removable to simplify cabling and splicing. XC chambers are designed to comply with Telcordia GR-3115-CORE. DSLAM Chamber DSLAM chambers are configured to accept environmentally hardened DSLAM units. In the pole-mount configuration, the DSLAM equipment in the top chamber is contained behind a bolted access panel. In the pad-mount configuration, the DSLAM chamber is accessed through double pad-lockable doors. Depending on the make and model, the pole mounted cabinet will accept up to two DSLAMs, and the pad mount cabinet accepts up to three DSLAMs.* *Dependent on make and model 4 Flexible Enclosure Design Offers Multiple Configurations Thermal Heat dissipation from the DSLAM units and solar loading is accomplished with a passive ventilation path, rated to dissipate up to 82 watts maximum at 46°C ambient as specified in Telcordia GR-487. Air enters and exits through ventilation in the chamber panels or doors that maximize heat dissipation. Terminal Blocks NetReach™ DSLAM XC enclosures feature Emerson RLS or URLS terminal blocks as standard equipment. They are self-strip, IDC (Insulation Displacement Connection) blocks. Blocks are hard-wired to a harness behind the block face. Because the same style XC blocks are used for all pairs, the service provider may divide them up between POTS and digital service in any combination and label them accordingly. Depending upon the cabinet style (pole or pad-mount) and the style of block chosen, a maximum pair capacity of 1800 pairs is available. 10 Pair URLS Block 50 Pair RLS Block Line vs AC Powering DSLAM equipment may be line powered or AC powered. AC powered enclosures include an AC load center with surge arrestor, one 15A circuit breaker and four AC receptacles for equipment in the DSLAM chamber. The load center is accessible through an access panel on the exterior of the cabinet. Craft Separation Craft separation is accomplished with individual chambers for electronics and cross connect fields. DSLAM equipment in the pole-mount configuration is contained behind a bolted access panel. DSLAM chambers in pad-mounted configurations are secured by industry-standard B-216 latches and are pad-lockable. All doors to XC chambers on both configurations are secured by industry-standard B-216 latches and are pad-lockable. Pole or Pad Mounting Pole-mount enclosures are provided with pole-mount kits that include top and bottom brackets to attach the cabinet to the pole. Pad-mount enclosures may be mounted on an optional pour in place template. Options and Accessories Available options and accessories include pair testers, service caps, block numbers and cable entry kits. 5 DRAFT Ordering Information – Pole Mount Emerson Catalog No. Emerson Part No. Description Line Powered DSXPLAD04RLSGBLP F1009877 Pole mount 400 pr RLS w/MS2 connectors, line powered for Adtran TA1100 series DSLAM DSXPLAD06RLSGBLP F1009876 Pole mount 600 pr RLS w/MS2 connectors, line powered for Adtran TA1100 series DSLAM DSXPLAD08RLSGBLP F1009635 Pole mount 800 pr RLS w/MS2 connectors, line powered for Adtran TA1100 series DSLAM DSXPLAD04RLSGBAC F1009853 Pole mount 400 pr RLS w/MS2 connectors, AC powered for Adtran TA1100 series DSLAM DSXPLAD06RLSGBAC F1009852 Pole mount 600 pr RLS w/MS2 connectors, AC powered for Adtran TA1100 series DSLAM DSXPLAD08RLSGBAC F1009636 Pole mount 800 pr RLS w/MS2 connectors, AC powered for Adtran TA1100 series DSLAM AC Powered Ordering Information – Pad Mount Emerson Catalog No. Emerson Part No. Description Line Powered DSXPDAD04RLSGBLP F1009924 Pad mount 400 pr RLS w/MS2 connectors, line powered for Adtran TA1100 series DSLAM DSXPDAD06RLSGBLP F1009670 Pad mount 600 pr RLS w/MS2 connectors, line powered for Adtran TA1100 series DSLAM DSXPDAD08RLSGBLP F1009925 Pad mount 800 pr RLS w/MS2 connectors, line powered for Adtran TA1100 series DSLAM DSXPDAD12RLSGBLP F1009926 Pad mount 1200 pr RLS w/MS2 connectors, line powered for Adtran TA1100 series DSLAM DSXPDAD04RLSGBAC F1009928 Pad mount 400 pr RLS w/MS2 connectors, AC powered for Adtran TA1100 series DSLAM DSXPDAD06RLSGBAC F1009929 Pad mount 600 pr RLS w/MS2 connectors, AC powered for Adtran TA1100 series DSLAM DSXPDAD08RLSGBLAC F1009930 Pad mount 800 pr RLS w/MS2 connectors, AC powered for Adtran TA1100 series DSLAM DSXPDAD12RLSGBLAC F1009931 Pad mount 1200 pr RLS w/MS2 connectors, AC powered for Adtran TA1100 series DSLAM AC Powered 6 Ordering Matrix Qty of Characters Type of Cabinet DSX = DSLAM/XConnect 3 Pad or Pole Mount PD PL = = Pad Pole 2 DSLAM Type AD AV AL = = = Adtran 1124/1148 * Adtran 1148V *** Alcatel-Lucent SEM ** 2 Total Pair Count **** 04 06 08 12 = = = = 400 pairs 600 pairs 800 pairs 1200 pairs, pad-mount only RLS URL = = RLS Cross Connect Blocks URLS Cross Connect Blocks 3 Splice Modules CF GB DP FS = = = = 710s 4005 gel filled 4005 dry No connectors 2 Power Options LP AC = = Line Power AC Powering 2 Block Type 2 PL PD *Pad mount cabinet accepts up to three DSLAM units.
