Summary of Program Review for Change It Now! Learning Community, Year 3

Curriculum: Expanded program offerings to include University of California and California State
University transferable courses. Defined 7 core and 6 affiliate courses. Designed GNST 32, a
student leadership class. Creating a clear pathway to Social Justice, Advocacy, Leadership and
Research Certificate.
Instruction: Collaborated with First Year Experience to increase accessibility to bottleneck
courses. Utilized methodology from arts, math, and technology. Used experiential learning and
civic engagement.
Student Success: Enhanced student learning through exploration of multiple literacies, technology,
research, and student empowerment. Utilized individual and community support as key strategies.
Initiatives: Develop a certificate/AA-T in Social Justice Advocacy, Leadership and Research.
Develop a CIN Summer Bridge Program in collaboration with high schools. Participate in and
support The Great Debate in Fall 2015. Add PSCN 18 and 20 to better support students through
their Student Educational Plan. With Career Center, host a Social Justice Career Fair. Sponsor an
annual Social Justice Conference at Chabot.
Human Resources: Use tutors, Learning Assistants and support Labs in Communication and in
Math, with 4 additional Learning Assistants needed for English. Need a Program Coordinator to
plan and organize work of the CIN program, additional counseling support, ongoing professional
development. Need total .40 FTE for Coordination (.20 internal with Comm Studies and Law and
Democracy plus .20 external for Coordination with City and Community partners) starting Fall
2015. Need 15 hours week of Program Assistant (classified professional). Need $2500 for
registration only for 4 core faculty to attend National Conference for Race and Ethnicity in
American Higher Education (NCORE) in Washington, DC.
Fiscal Resources: Seeking additional funding sources …was funded through Title III and Student
Senate.Seeking general fund, Career Pathways Trust, Equity funds, Student Success and Support
Program, Community Collaborative Career Technical Education monies. Need additional .20 FTEF
for PSCNs (.13 for The College Experience and .07 for University Transfer Planning).
Physical Resources: Need office/program space for faculty and students.
Technical Resources: None at this time.

Outreach & Articulation: Engage the broader Hayward community in dialogue on community
issues through The Great Debate. Collaborate with Public Service Pathway as part of the Career
Pathways Trust Grant in Fall 2014. Explore community issues such as Stop the Violence Rallies.
Plan more outreach to high schools. Increase visibility on and off campus through Law and
Democracy Program, Service Learning, Daraja, Puente, and First-Year-Experience Learning
Communities. Collaborate with 4-year institutions with like programs.
Student Learning Outcomes:
~CLO:Last course evaluated in Spring 2013 and Closing the Loop in 14-15 Program Review.
~PLO: 2 aligned with College-Wide Learning Goals in (1) Global and Cultural Involvement and
Civic Engagement, and (2) Communication. Designing assessment tools and will assess during 1415.
~Number of courses w/ outcomes: 14 =all core courses (ENGL 102, 1A, 7, COMM 1, 6, 46, and
Math 43, GNST 32); all affiliate courses (LIBS 1, PSCN 10, 15, 4, 80, SERV 85)
