Classified Senate Minutes – 21 August 2015 • Welcome/Call to Order o 12:07 pm o 9 voting members present • Vote to approve July minutes o 9 Yes; 0 No; 1 Abstain o July minutes approved • President's Report o Added times to minutes to keep meeting on track and on time— this meeting is a trial run to see how well this works o Board Meeting Two ECD presentations • Lab schools at Chabot and LPC are comparable to the Nursing and Dental Hygiene programs because of the hands-on nature • Lab schools in general have higher enrollment compared to those ECD programs without lab schools • The board was interested in the cost of the program but VP Thompson described how it brought money into Chabot and LPC and benefits instruction to students by doing work in the classroom • Vice President's Report o The Classified Senate meetings will continue to be held Fridays at 12:00. If we ever need a second meeting, it will be held on a Wednesday. o The 4CS was attended by Noell and Katrin A list of resources from the conference was provided (addendum one) The conference showed what other colleges/senates do: some do more than Chabot Classified Senate and others do less Discussed Staff Development and the funding of Staff Development For 2016, we need a Staff Development plan to obtain funding Other colleges provide reassign time Other colleges have flex time for staff/classified development Page 1 Classified Senate Minutes – 21 August 2015 Discussed how to get people involved in shared governance Other colleges have a program review for Classified Senate, which makes the senate more of a part of the institution Chabot Classified Senate has an interest in sending representatives to upcoming 4CS meetings • Secretary’s Report o May minutes passed by e-mail vote 6 Yes; 0 No; 4 Abstain; 6 No response • Treasurer's Report o $4066 in co-curricular account o $187 per month in payroll contributions o Classified Senate hasn’t had money allocated for travel expenses for many years except for the previous year when President Sperling gave it to us; but we do have a travel account • SEIU Report o SEIU is working with the District on Class & Comp study Trying to figure out how changes will be implemented • Compared to the Bay Ten, some people are underpaid and will receive a raise • Compared to the Bay Ten, some people are overpaid and their wages will remain the same Faculty is getting a 10% raise over three years • There is concern that the Classified “me-too” clause ends after one year and that this 10% raise might not be applied to classified staff • The Classified contract will be reviewed by SEIU to address this concern SEIU representatives will resume contract review days to make sure we know what is in the contract • Classified Senate Mission Statement o There is an interest in writing one to remind Classified Senate of our goals as we do Classified Senate work o Vote to develop a mission statement 10 yes; 0 no; 0 abstain o Committee to develop a Mission Statement Catherine Powell Page 2 Classified Senate Minutes – 21 August 2015 Noell Adams Debra Kling Christie Verarde • TLC Fund o Put money aside from co-curricular account for Classified Staff in need Person in hospital Well wishes Milestone life events (birth, wedding, funeral) o How do we know when these events happen so people don’t feel left out if the Senate misses it? Classified Senate members report it to the TLC committee as they hear it o Vote to allot funds not to exceed $250 for the fall semester for the TLC pilot fund (for hospital and bereavement purposes) to be responsible by the Outreach and Fundraising workgroup in coordination with the treasurer 11 Yes; 0 No; 0 Abstain • Outreach and Fundraising Workgroup o Workgroup is developing a newsletter o Discussion regarding having name badges for Classified Staff Everyday?
