Sizing:
o What is the function of the server (i.e. Web server, DB server, file server, app server, etc.)?
o What is the application (choose from the CMS application list.)?
o Is a VMWare (i.e. virtual) system sufficient?
If a Vmware system is sufficient will it run a java application and what is the
recommended memory settings for the java application stack and heap size?
o What are the system requirements/recommendations from the vendor?
o Is this a replacement for an existing server? If yes which one?
o What Operating System is required?
o What level of the OS is required? ( please indicate 32-bit or 64-bit also )
o How much memory is required?
o Which groups will be accessing the application/system?
o How many users will be on the system?
o Do any user accounts need to be created on this system? List username and full name for
each user account.
o How much storage is needed with the system (both for OS and for application/data files)?
o Are there SAN disk storage requirements or partition size requirements?
o Is there an application?
 What is the name of the application software?
 Who will be the application owner?
 Who is the support contact for the application (include BC and/or vendor info)
o Is there a database?
 What type of database (i.e. Oracle, SQL, etc.)
 What type of data will be held in the database?
 Is the data secure/confidential?
 Who is the support contact for the database (include BC and/or vendor info)

Will it require access from the internet or campus access only? Which VLAN will it be in?
o Do any TCP ports need to be opened? (for each port, specify the source as campus or
internet, note that datacenter-source traffic does not need a firewall change)

What is the system environment status (i.e. What type of coverage does it require)? Choose one:
o Production Critical is 24/7 with potential off hour support calls to the BC app. admin.
o Production Non-Critical is 8am to 5pm on business days.
o Development or Test which are also 8am to 5pm on business days.

Does the vendor require access to the application/server and for what reason?
o On site or remote?

Are there backup retention requirements beyond the standard TSM service level description
(which includes daily backups, 3 versions kept, and deleted files kept 90 days)?

Are there any external or peripheral hardware requirements?

Is there funding for this system?

Are there naming conventions for this system? If not Systems will name the system and notify
you of the name. For security, please try to avoid names that reference the function, application,
vendor, department, or the names of admins or users.
