Chapter 12. Remote Access Protocols, Services, and Troubleshooting Project 12A: Install an Internal Modem Follow the procedures outlined in the exercise to accomplish this project. Project 12B: Create a New Dial-Up Connection Follow the procedures outlined in the exercise to accomplish this project. Project 12C: Install the Routing and Remote Access Service To set up a basic RRAS server, follow these steps: 1. In the Control Panel, locate the Network and Dial-up Connections icon. Doubleclick the icon to open it. 2. Locate the Make New Connection icon and double-click it. At the first dialog box, click the Next button. 3. At the next dialog box, click in the box labeled “Accept Incoming Connections”. Click Next. 4. Follow the remaining instructions in the Network Connection Wizard to complete the setup. 5. Once you have completed all the steps, click the Finish button. Users will now be able to dial into the RAS server. To install an advanced RRAS on a Windows 2000 server, follow these steps: 1. Press the Start button, navigate to the Programs menu, and then to the Administrative Tools program group. In Administrative Tools, locate Routing and Remote Access. 2. On the Action menu, select Configure and Enable Routing and Remote Access. The Routing and Remote Access Server Setup Wizard will appear. Click the Next button. The Common Configurations dialog box appears. 3. Select the Remote access server option and click the Next button. 4. The Remote Access Server Setup dialog box will appear. Select the Advanced server option and press the Next button. The Remote Client Protocols dialog box will appear. 5. Verify that all of the protocols you want to support at the dial-up connection are listed here. If they are not and you wish to install support for more protocols, click the button titled “No, I need to add protocols.” Once you have completed adding the required protocols, click the button titled “Yes, all of the required protocols are on this list.” Then click the Next button. 6. If you selected the TCP/IP protocol, the IP Address Assignment dialog box will appear. 7. If you want to use DHCP to assign IP addressing information automatically, select the “Automatically” entry. If you choose “From a specified range of addresses,” you will be presented with another dialog box that will allow you to enter the IP addressing information manually. Press the Next button. 8. The Managing Multiple Remote Access Servers dialog box will appear. Make your selection and click the Next button. Click the Finish button. The installation is complete.
