Technical Writing
Prerequisite: ENGL 1301 and 1302.
English 2311 assists students in developing the writing ability required by their future
professions. Six to nine writing assignments are required. Students in this class will
analyze the communication situation fully and accurately (needs, audiences, uses, and
constraints); gather, interpret, and document information logically, efficiently, and
ethically; develop professional work and teamwork habits; and design usable, clear,
persuasive, accessible workplace documents.

This class focuses on sports films such as boxing, football, golf, etc. Students will be
expected to complete an objective midterm, one paper, announced quizzes, and a final.
Some viewings outside class will be required. The attendance policy kicks in on the 3rd
class meeting.

In this class, we will talk about the purpose of higher education and about the pleasures
and advantages of majoring or minoring in English. We will learn about literature and
literary criticism as we read and discuss poems, short stories, and plays. We will
practice critical reading and critical thinking as we analyze and discuss various kinds of
non-fiction texts. We will review core concepts of grammar and writing. This course is
reading and writing intensive. Attendance is required, and attendance is taken beginning
with the first day of class.
