What an unusual winter; hot… cold… rain… snow! Who knows what’s
coming next? My advice to you is to forget the winter! Make plans now to
come join us for one of Bloomsburg University’s Mini-Courses. This spring
we are offering a wide array of non-credit courses that can meet your work
and personal development needs. Learn something new, make new friends,
have some fun! Don’t be a couch potato come on down and join us!!

Your Road Map For Success: A Mastermind
Group (B120A)
Success is not a destination; it is instead a process, a
life-long strategy of building on strengths, minimizing
weaknesses, and focusing on what's most important. A
Mastermind Group is a meeting of like-minded people
who are motivated and dedicated to making effective, lasting changes in their lives.
This group will study the book, "Your Road Map For
Success" by John C. Maxwell, and utilize the study materials, How to be a REAL Success. REAL stands for
Relationships, Equipping, Attitude, and Leadership.
Whether you're a civil servant or a corporate executive,
you'll achieve great things by understanding these four very
important success-building areas in which every respected
leader excels.
As the group moves through each lesson, we'll bring
our ideas and opinions together to help shape and mold
our understanding of the material in a way that is far superior to simply reading a book on your own. Our goal is to

We'll start with the basics: learn how to turn on the
computer and go from there. This is a hands-on, slowerpaced class just for first-time computer users. You'll get an

account, and search for information on the Internet. Join
us in a relaxed atmosphere where all your questions are
patiently answered and mistakes are expected. You'll have
plenty of time to practice in the classroom, with the

Are you using the Internet but would like to do so more
efficiently? If so, this is the class for you. You'll learn the
best way to search the Internet, shop for goods and services, and gain quick access to information you've found by
saving your "Favorite" websites, creating "Folders", and
searching your computer's "History". You'll also learn how
to change your "Home" page and "Search engine", and use
"Tabs". Important issues like safety and security are also
covered. This class is tailored to meet the interests of students by using the most popular websites, and is an excellent follow-up to the Computer Basics class.

Whether you're just learning word processing, or
switching from another software, using Microsoft Word is
easy! You'll study basic word processing terminology, discover the fastest and easiest ways to create and edit documents, and learn functions through guided exercises.

screen; formatting and enhancing documents; saving and

Introduction to Excel 2013 (B167A)
Learn how to efficiently and effectively use Excel.
Topics for this course include: spreadsheet terminology,
exploring the Excel window, entering and editing text,
basic formulas and functions, inserting rows & columns,
page setup, autofill, and basic charts. This beginner course
is designed for students who are new to using Excel or
would like to learn how to be more efficient. Class taught

Computer Repair & Maintenance Made Easy

Viruses, errors, upgrades, and maintenance your friendly
neighborhood computer tech will help you learn about all
of these. Students will learn techniques to remove or protect against viruses, spyware, and other malware. Computer
hardware and Windows errors will be explained with ways
to repair them. Have you ever wanted to get your hands
inside your computer and know what all those parts are? A
variety of components and plugs will be shown so you can
learn how to upgrade or repair the internals of your computer. The class will also delve into network setup and creation, internet connectivity issues, internet browsers, and a
variety of computer myths and rumors. The instructor will
provide information about a lot of useful tools that can
keep your computer running clean, safe, and secure. So if
you've ever had a question about how to maintain, repair,
or upgrade your computer this is the class for you. Even if
you consider yourself to be technology challenged, and
you're afraid you won't understand the techno-babble,
don't worry-our instructor uses easy to understand terms
and computer novices or beginners are always welcome.

Sign Language for Beginners (S290A)
"Hello, how may I help you?" A simple request unless
you can't hear. Individuals who are Deaf or Hard of
Hearing face this situation every day. Join others in learning
about the Deaf community and their culture. You'll learn
some basic communication skills to assist you when interacting with Deaf individuals, such as eye contact, gestures,
facial expressions, and basic American Sign Language
vocabulary and fingerspelling. Handouts will be provided
including a list of suggested books, DVDs, and websites.
This is an ideal course for those serving in the public sector, i.e. administrative assistants, teachers, food servers, etc.
Beginner and advanced participants welcome.

Introduction to Birding (S245A)
This course is designed for beginners to bird watching,
also called "birding." A Friday evening session will introduce you to birds of Eastern North America. This session
will include images of some of the more common birds
found in Pennsylvania, a brief overview of their vocalizations, and some pointers on taking good field notes. The
following two Saturday mornings will be in the field at
local sites. Participants are encouraged to dress appropriately for the field, bring binoculars, a field guide to the
birds of Eastern North America, and a field notebook and
pen/pencil.
Class will be held on the following dates: Friday, May
13th from 6-9pm, Saturdays, May 14th & May 21st from

Introduction to Ableton Live (S355A)
Did you ever wonder how modern electronic music is
made? Are you curious about the tools musicians and DJs
use? Do you have an interest in music technology, or just
want to make some noise?
This introductory course will cover Ableton Live, a popular and flexible Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) for Mac
or PC. Ableton Live is used by musicians, DJs and sound
designers all over the world, both in the studio and in live
performance. We'll cover a broad range of basic recording
and editing topics, with a focus on getting familiar with
some of Ableton's most unique features.
Techniques for both beginners and intermediate users
will be offered. By the end of this course, you'll know how
to compile Live sets from audio and MIDI (Musical
Instrument Digital Interface) clips, loops, and samples.
Prior knowledge of other DAWs is helpful, but not
required.

Hollywood Goes to War (S276A)
Join Karl Zimmerman, as we explore the cinema's interpretations of war with a special emphasis on Hollywood &
American Military history. Should a film strive for historical
accuracy or is artistic license worthwhile in order to achieve
a 'higher' message? Does Hollywood mold values or does it
merely reflect them? What is the 'truth' about war, and
does Hollywood 'get' that? We'll take a generally chronological approach, focusing on the Civil War, the Indian wars,
the World Wars, and the "Savage Wars of Peace" including
the Cold War, Korea, Vietnam and the Middle East.
Themes will include the nature & obligations of military
service, the role of the military in a republic, the nature of
war, the nature of leadership, and the film's social impact.
Films will include GWTW, Gettysburg, Glory, All Quiet on
the Western Front, From Here to Eternity, the Caine
Mutiny, Dr. Strangelove, Seven Days in May, Saving Private
Ryan and many others. We will pay special attention to the
impact of John Wayne on American culture. Karl especially
encourage combat veterans to attend.

Dog Grooming (S268A)
This is a basic course on how to manage and keep your
dog's coat in good condition. Discussion will cover what
brushes are necessary and available for hair care and how
to use them properly, how to avoid matting, and what conditioners are needed to keep the coat silky and beautiful.
You'll learn how to trim your dog's nails, clean the pads,
and how to clean his ears. A demonstration on teeth cleaning and clipping will be given. This course will be held at
the instructor's location in Berwick; directions will be provided with your confirmation letter.

Weaving A Tapestry Of Our Past (S622A)
Our lives are made up of stories. This is the way that
older people in a family convey personal history. Every
person's life is a patchwork quilt made up of dreams,
hopes, tragedies, humor. In this course we will look within,
retrieve those stories that make up our world, and record
them. Also, excerpts of published journals and diaries will
be discussed.

Looking for a quick, easy and fun activity to tire your
dog out? Does your dog need a job? Is your dog a "worrier", or does he bark and lunge at other dogs? Whether
mutt or purebred, young or old, active or mellow, fearful
or reactive, K9 Nose Work® may just be the solution for
you! NO PRIOR OBEDIENCE TRAINING
REQUIRED.
K9 Nose Work® provides mental and physical exercise
and builds a dog's confidence and focus. In this course we
cover the basic concepts and foundation skills of K9 Nose
Work®. You will observe and learn to read your dog and
come to admire his superior scenting skills.
Enjoy a fun and "no pressure" activity together in a safe
and controlled environment and develop an even stronger
bond with your dog! Dogs are worked one at a time, and
exercises are adapted to each handler/dog team. All sessions will be held inside.
Additional information:
Dogs must be able to stay quietly in their vehicles
out of the owner's sight when it's not their turn.
Participants must disclose any aggression and reactivity issues prior to class.
Participants will receive a mini-questionnaire and
orientation email prior to course start.

Basic Conversational Spanish (S450A)
This class is focused on teaching how to communicate
using Spanish for simple situations, travel, shopping, etc.
We will utilize a combination of vocabulary structures, gestures, and questioning activities to help students learn how
to communicate in the Spanish language. The class is not
focused on grammar explanations, but more "Pop-up"
grammar to provide a general understanding of the language. There will be short reading actives.

Hydroponic Gardening (S580A)
If you'd like to garden all year but the changing seasons
won't allow it, perhaps you should consider the
Hyrdroponic method of growing plants. Hydroponics is a
method of growing plants in soil-free nutrient solutions.
Here's your chance to understand the basic setup and daily
maintenance of Hydroponics and how it differs from the
Aquaponic system. This is a clean and fun way to garden!

Pruning Trees and Shrubs (S277A)
Trees and shrubs need to be correctly pruned and
trained to become beautiful additions to your property. In
this class you'll learn the basic pruning and training techniques that allow your shrubs and trees to grow into the
forms they were meant to be. You'll also learn the five
steps of pruning, methods to invigorate shrubs, proper
tools, the proper time of year to prune, tree health, and
natural target pruning.

Learn the basics of tying flies for trout, bass, and panfish that can be used in our local waters. You'll learn what
you need to get started, with a complete display of basic
tools and information on where to buy them. Find out

what to look for when you're ready to buy. We'll also
cover basic fly rod and reel rigging, along with casting for
beginners, and basic knots.

The Wilton Decorating New Course 1 - Building
Buttercream Skills, will teach, or refresh your skills with

learn how to make easy flowers, rosettes, leaves and loops

Healthy Eating Mediterranean Style (J225A)
This class explores the healthy cuisines of the countries
that border the Mediterranean Sea. A cooking style that
includes the use of vegetables, fruits, seafood, whole
grains, flavorful olive oil, red wine and palate pleasing
herbs and spices. Studies have shown that following a
Mediterranean style diet may reduce many health risks. A
full tasting menu and recipes included with the class.

Design a professional-looking cake! Learn how to select
colors, arrange flowers and work with royal icing, which is

Bring along 6 plain cupcakes per person, a can of icing,

This class mixes Pilates and boxing moves into a fattorching, muscle-sculpting, core-centric interval workout.
It's guaranteed to whip you into shape using a class format
that's both fun and challenging! In addition to Pilates and
boxing movements, the exercise incorporates the use of
weighted gloves which add to the workout by toning the
arms and maximizing cardiovascular health. No experience

The 2016 PHS Philadelphia Flower Show, will celebrate
the centennial of the National Park Service and our country's majestic natural landscapes, rich history, and vibrant
culture.
PHS welcomes you to the Flower Show, an amazing
world of great gardening and design that dates back to
1829. This event is special for so many reasons and number one on the list is that it takes place at a time of year
when we crave color and beauty from our gardens. The
Flower Show offers this and so much more.
The 2016 Flower Show theme "Explore America" will
take visitors through acres of displays inspired by iconic
parks like Acadia and Cape Cod, Valley Forge and
Shenandoah, Yellowstone, Yosemite and many other parks
and historic sites and created by the nation's premier floral
and garden designers.
The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and the National
Park Service are natural partners, sharing a common mission to protect and care for natural resources and preserve
green spaces. Through "Explore America," PHS and the
Park Service are engaging those who know and love the
parks, and inviting a new generation to discover the special
places that belong to us all.
Guests can choose their own trail through the beautiful
displays and learn about the natural, historical and cultural
beauty of our parks. They will marvel at the Flower Show's
new Railway Garden, a vast display of large-scale model
locomotives and railcars rumbling through a miniaturized
National Parks landscape. Guests can take The Butterfly
Experience, a rare opportunity to interact with domestic
and exotic varieties and create a Flower Show keepsake or
terrarium in the Make & Take Studio.
"Base Camp" in the Grand Hall (adjacent to the
Exhibition Hall), features an indoor playground of attractions, shopping and dining - including climbing walls, live
music, and wine tastings. A popular Pop Up Beer Garden
with lots of seating will invite guests to refresh between
explorations of the Flower Show.
The Flower Show offers innovative ideas for outdoor

rapidly gaining recognition. This course offers an introduction to Chinese medicine, providing 15 hours of continuing education for nurses and LPNs. It is also applicable to

Touch for health is a synthesis of kinesiology and acupressure touch along with meridian tracing, helping to discover the source of pain and which muscles are responsible. You'll learn the relationship of Chinese principles of

tests for allergies and nutritional deficiencies.

This unique form of artistic expression is as popular

Beagle, Sharon
Egli, Stephanie
A Bloomsburg area native, and graduate of Bloomsburg University. She received her
Master of Education and Master of Fine Arts here. Sharon is a self-taught beader and
wire work artist and has been doing bead weaving and counted bead work for over
40 years. She has won awards for her creative bead work, most recently at Fire
Mountain Gems in Oregon, and is currently awaiting word from another juried contest. Her wire work is a more recent addition starting 12 years ago. Her work can
be viewed at many of the local craft events including the Covered Bridges Arts and
Craft Festival held in October at Knoebels Grove. She has been a member of the
Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and the North Mountain Art League. Sharon also
has interests in Stained Glass work, Silver Smithing, and Painting. She currently
teaches Math and Science.
Has been teaching High School Spanish for 19 years. Where she has traveled overseas with students for educational purposes. Studied Spanish in South America, and
traveled to Mexico, Costa Rica, and other spanish speaking areas.

Warren Frantz is an instructor of mathematics for thirty six years at Danville High

Glidewell, Gary
Gary Glidewell is a registered Social Dance Instructor with USA Dance. His education started in 2003 at the studio of the Performing Arts in SO. Williamsport, and has
expanded since then. He has studied dance at numerous locations from
Pennsylvania to Florida. Gary loves teaching ballroom dancing and has experience
doing so at the East Lycoming School District, the Tokiski Center, Pennsylvania
College of Technology, Saint John’s School of the Arts and local YMCA’s. He also has
performed dance demonstrations and has appeared on WVIA Ballroom Dancing.
Gary shares his love of dancing with his wife of 41 years, Bonnie Glidewell who
assists him as his dance partner in the classes he teaches.

Joe has been an instructor at Bloomsburg University for about 24 years. His education started in 1963 when he met Unice Ingham, who developed as well as started
to teach Reflexology. Towards the late 70's he began to study with the International
College of Kinesiology, developed by George Goodhart. Joe has taken classes with
the world renowned Dr. Upledger, who discovered the cranial pulse. Joe also
worked in Dr Upledger's clinic in Palm Beach Gardens, FL leading to Dr Upledger
testing for Joe to be qualified as an instructor. Joe puts all of his knowledge together when he instructs his classes.
Hepner, James
Jim Hepner has been fly fishing for 50+ years and teaching fly tying and fly fishing
for 36 years having taught 100's of new and seasoned anglers how to tie and fish the
flies they have tied. Jim has also been an instructor and fly fishing guide for 30 years
helping anglers to know where to located fish and how to catch them, Jim owned a
fly fishing business in the 70's and knows where to find the best material and what
to look for. Having fished both in the US and foreign countries he brings a new and
innovative approach to understanding and applying the knowledge learned to on
stream applications.

Selinsgrove to Berwick.
Hill, Maureen
Maureen A. Hill has been teaching American Sign Language (ASL) for nearly ten
years for the Continuing Education Mini-Course Program at Bloomsburg University,
for area churches, as well as the Bloomsburg YMCA's Summer Camp Program where
she taught three classes of 6-12 year olds. She has been working in the field of
ASL/English interpreting for almost three decades. She earned her Bachelor's degree
in Interpreting for the Deaf and her Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction
both at Bloomsburg University of PA. She holds National Certification in Interpreting
(CI) and Transliterating (CT) offered by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID).
She also presents workshops to aspiring students in the field of deafness. Currently,
Maureen is jointly conducting a research project to be published and presented at a
national conference. In her spare time, she volunteers for several organizations (Big
Brothers Big Sisters, Mostly Mutts, etc), scrapbooks, and travels for family affairs.

DePrisco, Jeremy
Jeremy dePrisco grew up listening to Echoes and Hearts of Space and the signals
beaming from his fatherÆs attic Ham Radio workbench. During his time as an
acoustic singer-songwriter over 15+ years, Jeremy was also a closet sound experimentalist. In 2010 he embraced this electro side and love of audio manipulation via
the Shivasongster moniker. Ableton Live has been a large part of Jeremy's exploration
into improvised and generative electronic music. He also uses Ableton Live and
other software tools to approach more narrative pieces that include guitar, alternative controllers, field recordings and found sounds. Jeremy performs regularly as
Shivasongster at electro-music.com festivals, and recently presented at the Kutztown
University Computer Music & Visualization Conference 2015 at the Kutztown
University Planetarium. Jeremy has worked with NY artist Robert Dorschel in
RoDoJede, Atlanta videographer Michael OÆBannon and local experimental group
Explorophonic. Jeremy is a 2010 graduate of the BU Communications Department.
When he is not making strange noises that drive his wife and friends crazy, Jeremy
enjoys reading Sufi poetry, watching Stephen Colbert, biking and growing hot peppers.

Sue Hock, a Bloomsburg native, who discovered Zumba Fitness along her personal
journey to better health several years ago. From the first Zumba class she was
hooked on the format, smiling throughout the hour and every hour of any kind of
Zumba since. She is a licensed instructor in the following Zumba Fitness formats:
Fitness, Gold Fitness, Toning, Gold Toning, and Aqua Fitness. As a Zumba instructor

Carmel Area High School teaching computer and information technology courses to
grades 9-12. She has been recognized as a Pennsylvania Keystone Technology

Ginny has been teaching Hatha Yoga to diverse populations since 1994, and is registered with the National Yoga Alliance with over 500 hours of study (E-RYT500). She
enjoys sharing an awareness-based, insight-driven class that encourages students to
learn about themselves through movement and to safely and wisely expand their
capabilities. In addition through the Himalayan Institute, she is a student of Yoga's

Karl Zimmerman holds a master's degree in history from Bloomsburg University as

Force Academy, where he taught and chaired the core course in Military History. He

Don’t wait to register - classes fill quickly! Secure a seat in the class of your choice by registering early. We’ll accept your
registration form and payment up until the course has reached its enrollment limit.
Class Confirmations / Locations
Class location will be listed in your confirmation letter. If time does not allow for mail delivery, we’ll call you. Some classes do not
meet every week; please check carefully for “skip” dates.
Refunds / Cancellations
Bus Trips
Due to the financial commitments required for our bus trips, we cannot honor refund requests once a trip has been confirmed. If
we have people on a waiting list and can find someone to take your place, we will refund your payment minus a $10 processing
fee. If you have a friend who would like to go in your place, you may transfer your seat to them, just give us a call at 570-3894420 so that we can update our roster.
Mini Courses
If you cancel your registration at least one business day before the course begins, we will refund your payment minus a $10 processing fee. No refunds will be given after a course begins.
If you cannot attend, we encourage you to send a friend in your place; substitutions are welcome up until the class starts.
If we cancel a course for any reason, you will receive a full refund. Sometimes we have to cancel a class due to low enrollment.
Help us better serve you by registering early and inviting your friends to join you in a class.
Online Career Certificate Programs
Students are given access to the entire program’s online classroom and learning material upon enrollment in Career Certificate
Programs. For this reason once the course is accessed either by requesting materials or viewing lessons we are unable to
process refunds. If you are unable to finish your course in the designated period of time, please contact us and we will make provisions for you to complete your course.
Bloomsburg University's Office of Corporate & Continuing Education reserves the right to cancel, postpone, reschedule, limit
enrollment, split or combine classes, and to change instructors and class locations. Every reasonable effort will be made to give
instructors and students advance notice of such changes.
