OFFICE OF THE VICE-PRESIDENT, RESEARCH NSERC Researchers & Deans August 11, 2015 Norbert H. Haunerland Associate Vice-President, Research NSERC RTI: Internal Application and Selection Process 1/1 As in the past year, NSERC has placed a limit on the number of applications universities can submit in 2015 for the Research Tools and Instruments (RTI) Grants Program. In 2014, we had a quota of 18 applications that were pre-allocated to the Faculties, based on the allocation criteria used by NSERC; namely, past success in RTI competitions and number of NSERC-funded researchers. This year, SFU’s RTI quota remains 18. Based on NSERC’s allocation criteria, the following allotment for SFU Faculties has been determined. Faculty Science Applied Sciences Arts and Social Science Communication, Art, and Technology Environment TOTAL: RTI Allocation 10 7 1 (one application will be selected from these three Faculties) 18 INTERNAL APPLICATION PROCESS: The Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Applied Sciences will each have their own selection process. For more information on the process, please contact your Dean. For the remaining Faculties, expressions of interest should be submitted to the Office of the Vice-President Research (vprsec@sfu.ca) by September 8, 2015. Each expression of interest should contain the names of the researchers, title of the proposal, 100-word abstract, requested infrastructure, and a tentative budget, all in one document. In consultation with the Deans, the VPR will select one application from the submitted expressions of interest, and notify the successful PI to further develop the application for submission to NSERC. An SFU Signature Sheet will be required for selected applications only. See timeline below.
