All reactions and handling should be carried out in a well-ventilated hood. Preparation of 2-Propene-1-selenol (allylselenol). A 50 mL two-necked flask containing succinic acid (3.54 g, 30 mmol) suspended in tetraglyme (20 mL) was immersed in a –10 °C cold bath, attached to a vacuum line equipped with two traps, and degassed. In another 50 mL twonecked flask equipped with a stirring bar and a nitrogen inlet were introduced LAH (202 mg, 5.2 mmol) and tetraglyme (10 mL). The flask was immersed in a bath cooled at –10 °C, and allylselenocyanate (876 mg, 6 mmol) diluted with tetraglyme (2 mL) was slowly added. After 10 min of stirring, this solution was then slowly added (10 min) with a flex-needle through the septum in the flask containing the succinic acid. During and after the addition, allylselenol was distilled off in vacuo (10–1 mbar) from the reaction mixture. The first cold trap (–40 °C) removed selectively the less volatile products, and allylselenol was condensed in the second trap cooled at –90 °C. At the end of the reaction, the second trap was disconnected from the vacuum line by stopcocks and attached to the MW spectrometer. Yield: 74%. Bp: pure sample was kept for weeks in dry ice. 1/2 –65 °C (0.1 mmHg). The (room temperature, 2% in CDCl3): 10 min or 1 day in the presence of small amounts of duroquinone, a radical inhibitor.
