IBM SmartCloud® Application Services Version 1.1 is IBM's platform-as-a-service
offering for the public cloud. It delivers a collaborative, cloud-based environment
that supports the full lifecycle of accelerated application development, deployment,
and delivery. IBM SmartCloud Application Services provides an enterprise-class
infrastructure, enhanced security, and pay-as-you-go services. Clients can use IBM
SmartCloud Application Services to sense and quickly respond to market demands,
capture new markets, and reduce application delivery and management costs.
Overview
IBM SmartCloud Application Services Version 1.0, announced in Services
Announcement 612-039, dated December 18, 2012 , has been updated to Version
1.1.
IBM SmartCloud Application Services Version 1.1 expands the offering's application
pattern catalog and improves the structure of the catalog to make it easier to add
additional capabilities off the release cycle.

Description
Improved patterns
A messaging extension has been added for the IBM® Web Application Pattern. This
will allow you to support web apps that have messaging requirements.
Improved data management for production databases
The database patterns have been enhanced with:

• Database image copy
Version 1.1 also improves your ability to build images and use those images on
private and public clouds. IBM Image Construction and Composition Tool (ICCT) is
now integrated with the IBM SmartCloud Application Workload Service. ICCT allows
users to create custom virtual images and deploy those images with SmartCloud
TM
Application Services, the PureApplication System, or IBM Workload Deployer. This
new functionality enhances the interoperability between IBM's public and private
clouds and gives clients additional choice and flexibility in virtual image deployment.
Version 1.1 also includes SmartCloud Application Workload Service Lifeboat
Monitoring, which allows for more resilient services for our Workload Service in
support of resilient production workloads.
