IBM United States Software Announcement 213-157, dated April 26, 2013 IBM PureApplication System W1500 and W1700 V1.1 can enable simplified business continuity Table of contents 1 1 1 1 Overview Key prerequisites Planned availability date Description 3 4 4 5 Statement of direction Program number Ordering information Prices At a glance IBM® PureApplication TM System V1.1 W1500 and W1700 delivers: • Simplified disaster recovery • Support for building and deploying MicrosoftTM WindowsTM patterns • Performance and usability improvements to system backup and restore • Automated vertical-scaling (for example, adding CPU or memory) of PureApplication-deployed virtual machines • Pattern creation enhancements that can simplify pattern creation Overview PureApplication System W1500 and W1700 V1.1 delivers function to help improve business continuity, broaden the PureApplication ecosystem, and simplify system management and support. • Improved backup and restore, efficient operating system updates, and automated vertical scaling help make system management much easier. • Additional platform support, broadened license management capability, and simplified pattern tooling enable support of more workloads. • Simplified replication-based disaster recovery helps protect your data. Key prerequisites IBM PureApplication System W1500 or IBM PureApplication System W1700 Planned availability date June 14, 2013 Description Simplified disaster recovery in PureApplication System V1.1 offers new capabilities 1 to pair a PureApplication System rack with a dedicated standby rack. Replicationbased disaster recovery can be achieved in a fraction of the time it would take to set up a traditional disaster recovery environment. IBM United States Software Announcement 213-157 IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 1 1 Before using the disaster recovery feature to back up third-party software, you should confirm that you have the rights under your third-party licenses. PureApplication System V1.1 also serves a wider ecosystem of workloads. It adds support for the Microsoft Windows operating system as a guest platform. It also adds improvements to the Plug-in Development Kit (PDK), which is used to create virtual application patterns for use in PureApplication System. You can complete system management data backup in significantly reduced time with fewer time-blocking system operations like deployments and other system related tasks. Automatic backup and selective restoration of virtual images occur from the workload catalog, helping to improve flexibility for scheduling system management data backups. You can monitor backup progress and receive email alerts with useful statistics when backups are complete. With the improved elasticity with V1.1, you can specify policies that result in PureApplication System dynamically adding CPU and memory resources, within specified ranges, to cloud groups or individual virtual machines to help meet performance goals. The following products are delivered as integrated patterns, available for deployment on PureApplication Systems. A purchase of a particular configuration of PureApplication System includes entitlement to run the following products up to the total capacity of that configuration: • IBM WebSphere® Application Server Hypervisor Edition, V7.0.0.27, V8.0.0.6, and V8.5.0.2 • IBM DB2® Enterprise Server Edition, V9.7 FP8 and V10.1.0.2 • IBM Web Application Pattern, V1.0.1 and V2.0.1 • IBM Transactional Database Pattern V1.1.0.7 • IBM Data Mart Pattern V1.1.0.7 • IBM Application Pattern for JavaTM V1.0.1 • IBM OS Image for Red Hat LinuxTM Systems V2.0.0.3 (W1500 only) • IBM OS Image for AIX® Systems V1.0.0.3 (W1700 only, AIX 6.1) • IBM OS Image for AIX Systems V2.0.0.2 (W1700 only, AIX 7.1) • IBM Mixed Language Application Modernization Pattern V1.0 (W1700 only) • IBM Advanced Middleware Configuration V1.1 WebSphere Commerce Pattern 1.0 for Red Hat Enterprise Linux for x86 A new WebSphere Commerce enterprise pattern designed to speed up the deployment of WebSphere Commerce Enterprise on PureApplication System W1500 is available for WebSphere Commerce Enterprise V7 users. WebSphere Commerce Pattern 1.0 for Red Hat Enterprise Linux for x86 can significantly reduce the deployment time of a three-tier production environment consisting of WebSphere Commerce, WebSphere Application Server, and DB2 database. WebSphere Commerce Pattern embodies the current best practices for WebSphere Commerce deployment. This pattern is available for WebSphere Commerce Enterprise 7.0 clients as additional content for download and on DVD media. For information about WebSphere Commerce Enterprise V7.0 (5724-I38), refer to Software Announcement 209-362, dated October 27, 2009 Accessibility by people with disabilities A US Section 508 Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) containing details on accessibility compliance can be requested at http://www.ibm.com/able/product_accessibility/index.html IBM United States Software Announcement 213-157 IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 2 Statement of direction IBM intends to deliver in the future the following software to run on PureApplication System. • IBM Security Access Manager for Web (ISAM) for deployment on the IBM PureApplication System. ISAM for Web combines user access management and web application protection into a highly scalable user authentication, authorization, and web single sign-on solution. IBM Security Access Manager for Web helps safeguard user access to online applications and protect the applications against advanced web threats. • IBM Security QRadar SIEM and IBM Security QRadar Log Manager for deployment on the IBM PureApplication System. The IBM Security QRadar family helps to deliver actionable and timely insight for improved threat detection and compliance. The QRadar family collects and correlates both log data and network flows, while making it easy to customize rules and reports. Using advanced security analytics, including real-time correlation and behavioral anomaly detection, IBM Security QRadar can help detect and prioritize threats and compliance risks that might otherwise be missed. • IBM Software Delivery and Lifecycle Patterns to help simplify the deployment of project lifecycle and delivery tooling. A catalog of patterns with outstanding tooling can enable clients to rapidly deploy and use the tools they need at the time that they need them. As the first phase, IBM intends to deliver virtual system patterns of Rational® Collaborative Lifecycle Management (CLM) solution and Rational Application Developer (RAD). These patterns will be based on years of experience in this area using golden topologies. These patterns can enable clients to focus their critical resources on value-add activities instead of installation and configuration of different middleware prerequisites and parts of these solutions. • SAP Business Suite 7i 2011 pattern for deployment on PureApplication System. This pattern is intended to enable clients to install and configure the SAP CRM, ERP, SCM, and SRM modules as stand-alone, distributed, and highavailability topologies on PureApplication System.
