Edge Ideals, Path Ideals, and the Linear Strand
Dr. Rachelle R. Bouchat,
Slippery Rock University
Abstract. Let Γ be a rooted, directed tree. Associated to Γ is an
ideal (in a polynomial ring) whose minimal generating set corresponds
to the edges in Γ. This can be further generalized for each positive
integer t by considering the path ideal It (Γ) whose minimal generating
set corresponds to directed paths of length (t − 1) in Γ. This talk will
focus on defining edge ideals and, the more general, path ideals precisely
as well as featuring results on the minimal free resolutions associated
to these ideals, specifically concentrating on the linear strand.
