Johnson, L. Williams Action on Minutes The minutes from the Ninth Meeting, April 9, 2013, were approved as presented. Double Majors in Business An update was given on whether students could declare a double major in the College of Business. The College Senate discussed the issue, and it was determined to not change the college policy at this time. Therefore, students cannot declare a double major in the college. Joint Programming with the College of Law It was announced that discussions with the College of Law for possible joint programming with the College of Business have been postponed until fall. Assessment Updates – Problem Solving and MBA Direct Assessment Report Two assessment updates and a report detailing planned assessment of learning objectives for next fall were given. Recommendations from the Assurance of Learning Team were received by the College Curriculum Committee and are stated below: Problem Solving – Learning goal: Our graduates will demonstrate problem solving skills and learning objectives: (1) College of Business graduates will be able to identify a wide array of business problems and their interdependencies, (2) College of Business graduates will be able to analyze situations and identify relevant factors that contribute to business problems by using appropriate quantitative and qualitative tools, (3) College of Business graduates will be able to generate a range of alternative solutions, analyze their feasibility and effectiveness, and recommend the optimal solution, and (4) College of Business graduates will be able to develop action plans to implement the recommended solutions. The learning objectives were assessed in MGMT 468 in summer and fall 2011 using a common case, assignment, and custom rubric. Seventy-three percent of students scored below expectations in the action plan element resulting in a College Curriculum Committee recommendation to revise the prompt to include the four elements of the framework. Once revised, student results improved to 100% meeting or exceeding expectations during the fall 2012 assessment. A-Team recommendations: (1) Continue to monitor results, (2) Set the performance target at 75% of students will meet or exceed expectations, and (3) Reassess the Problem Solving learning objectives in fall 2014. MBA Direct Assessment Report on Strategic Integration, Business Ethics, and Oral Business Communication – New assessment results from fall 2012 for strategic integration, business ethics, and oral business communication were presented. In all formats and learning objectives, students exceeded the target performance levels. The A-Team recommendation for all MBA Direct Assessments is to continue to monitor the results.
