Double Majors in

Business. The College Senate discussed the issue, and it was determined to not change the
college policy at this time. Therefore, students cannot declare a double major in the college.
Joint Programming
with the College of
Law
It was announced that discussions with the College of Law for possible joint programming
with the College of Business have been postponed until fall.
Assessment
Updates – Problem
Solving and MBA
Direct Assessment
Report
Two assessment updates and a report detailing planned assessment of learning objectives for
next fall were given. Recommendations from the Assurance of Learning Team were received
by the College Curriculum Committee and are stated below:
 Problem Solving – Learning goal: Our graduates will demonstrate problem solving
skills and learning objectives: (1) College of Business graduates will be able to
identify a wide array of business problems and their interdependencies, (2) College
of Business graduates will be able to analyze situations and identify relevant factors
that contribute to business problems by using appropriate quantitative and
qualitative tools, (3) College of Business graduates will be able to generate a range
of alternative solutions, analyze their feasibility and effectiveness, and recommend
the optimal solution, and (4) College of Business graduates will be able to develop
action plans to implement the recommended solutions. The learning objectives were
assessed in MGMT 468 in summer and fall 2011 using a common case, assignment,
and custom rubric. Seventy-three percent of students scored below expectations in
the action plan element resulting in a College Curriculum Committee
recommendation to revise the prompt to include the four elements of the framework.
Once revised, student results improved to 100% meeting or exceeding expectations
during the fall 2012 assessment. A-Team recommendations: (1) Continue to
monitor results, (2) Set the performance target at 75% of students will meet or
exceed expectations, and (3) Reassess the Problem Solving learning objectives in
fall 2014.
 MBA Direct Assessment Report on Strategic Integration, Business Ethics, and
Oral Business Communication – New assessment results from fall 2012 for
strategic integration, business ethics, and oral business communication were
presented. In all formats and learning objectives, students exceeded the target
performance levels. The A-Team recommendation for all MBA Direct Assessments
is to continue to monitor the results.
Adjournment
The meeting adjourned at 2:30 p.m. This is the last regular meeting for the academic year.
