RE: McLaughlin Report The Acad mic Council eld general meetings on June 16 and Jul 21, with the bulk of the disc ssion being devoted to the University bu t and to prepar tion for th Academic Council Retreat in Junction, August 27-29. Four 'whit papers" were prepared, for presentation o the President and to Rege ts at the Junction retreat; these papers oncern the positioni g of the Un ersity in strategic response to HB2181, he quality of un ergraduate ucation, the development of graduate edt ation, and research on the subco t the Unive sity. The Faculty Senate Vice President articipated 11111 education; th on admission ittee which irepared the paper on quality of undergr uate latter pape contains, among other things, a recomm dation tandards th is essentially identical with the reso tion to be introdu ed to the Se ate on September 9. The Junc ion meeting as attended by the full Academic Counc4 including the Senate Vice • resident; a second member of the Senate, Professor Jam s Brink, was also in attendance. President Cavazos, Vice Presiden Payne, and egents Mayes, Hobbs, and Masters took in the discus ions. A s ii ary set of recommendations will shortly given to the culty Senat for its consideration, the hope being at the Senate wi provide it formal input to the Council in time forl presentation f a final se of recommendations to the President pri to the Regent January me-ting. UNCONDITIONAL ADMISSION 1. All s.udents in t e upper 25% of their class upon graduati No minimum SAT or ACT scores. 2. Students in the s cond 25% of their high school class upon graduation and ac ieving scores of at least 900 on the SAT or 20 on the ACT. 3. Students in the 1 wer 50% of their high school class and achieving scores f at least 1100 on the SAT or 27 on the T. The following high sc ool credits are expected to be completed before enrollnent at Texa Tech. English or equiv lent 4 3 Mathematics 21/2 Socisl Sciences 2 Laboratory Scien es 31/2 Eleciives A deficiency in high chool units will not normally affect admission to the Universi y. Persons with deficiencies will be admitted on a conditional basis as defined by their college. CONDITIONAL Al MISSION 1. If both grade of "C" or better is received in ourses, the student may then enroll in the fall semes er. If not the student may not enroll until the subse uent spring semester, and will be admitted under the rules that govern students on academic probation. b. Sprin enrollment.
