January 12, 1983 MEETING TO DISCUSS CHARGES TO STUDY COMMITTEES Attending: Cavazos, DErling, K. Jones, McKown,14charth, Davis, Denham, Newc Cochran and Sowell President Cavazos opened of the work of the stucy ested in recommendatiors in long-term involvement b, Kuethe, importance the meeting with introductory remarks concerning t lly intergroups. He stressed that his administration is vi of the committees concerning the future of the ins itution and as the final goals are evolved. Following this background information, President Cavazos asked for the committee reports. They are summarized as follows: arious •mmittee Committee A: Chairman Kandi McKown reported that the emphasis of this aching. has been on teaching quality and improvement as well as evaluation of A matrix (attachec) has been developed delineating the various practic s of the TTU colleges. The committee will then consider this information and h ve recommendations by the end of the semester. Committee B: Evelyn Davis, temporary chairman, reported that the comm .' ee is concerned with the various aspects of research efforts. They have met! ith Vice-Presidents Derling and Jones and will meet with Vice-President Br dford in the near future. They expect to have two versions of a questionnai e to distribute by February 1; these will be distributed to department chai s and others involved with research administration and also to faculty membe s. President Cavazos offered logistical and organizational support for th committee efforts, and Vice-President Darling suggested using computer assistanc in analyzing the datE with appropriate front-end planning. Library Committee: Lynn Richards reported in absence of chairman Kent rim. udents This committee is concerned with library services, space and usage by and faculty. Two sub-committees have been organized to study current se and problems; these will meet together in February to organize the overall recommendations. Suggested topics for inclusion are access to the compute facilities in the basenent, cost effectiveness of campus satellite librari s, and hours during holicays. Committee D: Clarke Cochran, chairman, reported on the committee stud student recruitinc, counseling and career placement. In view of the scholarship resources, his committee is investingating various options area at present. Suggested topics for consideration were student rete scheduling in the career planning office.
