Math 2270-3 Information for Chapter 3 Announcements • Tuesday February 1 we are meeting in LCB 115 Computer Lab. Do not come to the normal classroom. Make sure you have accessed your math computer account. Part of the time will be a lecture and the rest will be the computer lab. All the files (including a tutorial) are available on the course webpage under “Computer Projects.” I will not print out a copy of these files. • The math department has an undergraduate colloquium which you are encouraged to attend. It is held each Tuesday at 12:55 in LCB 215. Refreshments (usually pizza) are provided, and you can receive credit for attending. To see the schedule, go to the following webpage: http://www.math.utah.edu/a/ugrad/colloquia.html • The first exam is two weeks from today on February 10. The material covered will be up to page 144, unless I make further announcement. I have not written the exam, but you can expect a variety of problems: true/false, conceptual questions (For example, can you explain why the inverse exists in rref(A) is the identity matrix?), computational questions (Find a solution to the following system of equations), and perhaps a longer question that sees if you can integrate the material covered thus far. More information on the exam will follow next week. The book does have review questions at the end of each chapter, and it bears looking over. • I was impressed with the scores on the quiz and homework. A key for both will be put up on the webpage soon. My writing may not be the best, so don't hesitate to ask if you can't read my key or there are inconsistencies. • Most everyone got Problem 1.2.32 incorrect. Be sure to read over my solution and talk to me if you have questions. This is an important question, and one we will revisit throughout the semester. • • • • • We will stick to the following schedule for Chapter 3: Tuesday 2/1: Computer lab, 3.1 Thursday 2/3: 3.2-3.3 Homework II Due Tuesday 2/8: 3.4, Review Maple Project Due Thursday 2/10: Exam II • The homework for Chapter 3 is the following.
