Aerial Services Geography Intern Scholar Program
Tri-Annual Geospatial Opportunity For UNI Students
Aerial Services, Inc. (ASI) is proud to be working with the Department of Geography at the
University of Northern Iowa to provide a mutually beneficial work experience for students during
each semester (including summer). This paid, credit-applicable internship will be available to
UNI students in the Geography Department.
Located in Cedar Falls for over 40 years, Aerial Services is an integrated team of professionals
providing premier aerial acquisition, orthophotography, mapping, and terrain data services to
government, utilities, engineers, and other geospatial clients. Their primary office is located in
the Cedar Falls Industrial Park, only a few minutes drive from campus. They also operate
aircraft and remote-sensing equipment from the Waverly, Iowa Airport.
Interns will primarily work at the Cedar Falls location in data production/quality control situations,
but may also be tasked with research, cartography, webmapping, administrative, and other
tasks related to the geography profession. Specific tasks for each intern will depend on time of
year, Aerial Services’ project load, and the selected intern’s skill set and interests. Interns will be
expected to work a minimum of 15 hours a week and may work as many as 40 depending on
project needs and the student's academic schedule. Concrete expectations of work time and
responsibilities will be laid out upon the student’s selection. An Aerial Services mentor will be
assigned to assist the students and act as their evaluator. Typically, one student will be selected
each semester, but more or less may be chosen at Aerial Services’ and the Department of
Geography’s discretion. Internships are temporary positions and, as such, benefits are not
available.
