A group of researchers working on sequencing the cotton genome has won the 2007
Texas Tech Research Development Fund Competition. Thea Wilkins, Bayer Crop
Science Regents Professor in Genomics, leads a group of seven co-principal
investigators on the project which won the $999,000 grant. more »

laboratory complex recently
added an additional 5,500square-feet of laboratory space,
according to program officials.
With the new elbow room, all
high-volume, heat-producing
instruments for testing fibers
and yarns at the research
facility were relocated to the
new space, and today the
expanded laboratory is fully

Longtime landscape architecture educator passes away at 61
Jean Stephans Kavanagh, an associate professor in Texas Tech University’s
Department of Landscape Architecture, died Jan. 25 after a brief battle with cancer.

Allen awarded cotton biotechnology award
Randy Allen, a professor of molecular biology in Texas Tech University’s Department of
Plant and Soil Science, was named the winner of the 2007 Cotton Biotechnology Award
last week at the Cotton Improvement Conference, which was part of this year’s Beltwide

and external relations has been named associate vice chancellor for development with

Texas Tech honors December CASNR graduates
Texas Tech University awarded diplomas to 2,370 students during December
graduation exercises, including more than 90 from the College of Agricultural Sciences
and Natural Resources on Dec. 15 at the United Spirit Arena in Lubbock.
Commencement speaker for the afternoon program was Texas Lieutenant Governor
