O’Brien & Associates Futures, a private client division of the massive Chicago-based firm. The company is one of the largest independent futures brokerage enterprises in the United States. more » STUDENT HIGHLIGHTS CASNR students listed among new Who’s Who Pig Roast: CASNR puts three outstanding agricultural leaders in the spotlight Texas Tech’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources honored three South Plains residents with outstanding agriculturalist awards on Tuesday (Nov. 9) during its annual Pig Roast at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center Banquet Hall. The Pig Roast also featured scholarship donors, recipients and intercollegiate judging teams. more » On Track: CASNR sets new enrollment record, doctoral students on the rise Texas Tech’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources reached a benchmark in student enrollment with a record number of students signed up for classes in the fall semester, university officials report. Christi Chadwell, a sophomore agriculture communications major from Garland, is in the saddle this year as the 49th student to serve as the Masked Rider. more » Texas Tech takes first at Cargill Judging Contest; National finals in two weeks Led by a high-scoring junior from Colorado, Texas Tech’s Meat Judging Team roasted the competition over the weekend taking first place at the Cargill Meat Solutions’ Intercollegiate Meat Judging Contest in Plainview. When the Red Raiders finished the event their closest rival was 130 points behind the powerhouse team from Lubbock. more » Map It: On the road to Texas Tech Research Farm – New Deal The Texas Tech Research Farm at New Deal has approximately 120 acres that support the crop production research. Nearly half of this area is in grazing paddocks. The remaining area at the research farm supports research on irrigation management, cotton physiology, cotton stress tolerance, weed science, soil fertility and forage physiology. Learn More >> GALLERY: China Study Abroad takes in agricultural universities, historic sites CASNR’s Norman Hopper and Cindy Akers led a 15-day China Study Abroad program last summer. The 14 students and their chaperones began their travels in Shanghai then moved inland to visit Chinese agricultural universities and view several historic sites, including the Great Wall of China and Forbidden City.
