Learn More >> UPCOMING EVENTS Researchers fight brutal drought with new web-based tools for farmers In the battle against the state’s prolonged and brutal drought, Texas Tech agricultural researchers have released two new farmer-friendly computer tools that save scarce irrigation water and boost bottom lines for parched producers. The internet-based programs are being offered free of charge through the Texas Alliance for Water Conservation, and take direct aim at improved irrigation scheduling and resource allocation. more » Therapy Saddles Up; AFS Therapeutic Riding Center expansion underway Thirteen years ago, with a mere $500 to contract the use of horses, Texas Tech began a program that would strengthen ties with the community and impact hundreds of lives over the next decade. Running from the end of May through the first of August, the college’s summer intern program affords selected students an opportunity to experience first-hand the government’s day-to-day operations. more » Texas Tech takes first at Australian international meat judging contest Texas Tech’s meat judging team took first place honors on Saturday (July 9) at an Australian international meat judging contest in Armidale, New South Wales, report officials with Tech’s Department of Animal and Food Sciences today. The Red Raiders won the annual Australian Intercollegiate Meat Judging Association contest by 433 points, beating 11 Australian and Japanese university competitors. more » Longtime leader, administrator John Burns retires from Texas Tech College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources Dean John Burns, who began working at Texas Tech in 1969 as an assistant professor, retires from the university today (June 30). A reception that brought more than 150 friends, guests and agricultural industry leaders from across the city and state was held this afternoon at the university’s Merket Alumni Center. more » Pate takes viticulture research poster award at national ASEV conference Daniel Pate, an outstanding graduate student from Tech’s Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics, was presented the top viticulture research poster award on June 23 at the national meeting of the American Society for Enology and Viticulture in Monterey, Calif.
