In Profile: LA’s Alice McLarty takes on monumental tasks in Washington
For landscape architect Alice McLarty there are no routine jobs among her daily duties;
not when the names of her projects are synonymous with some of the nation’s most
important treasures. Over the past 20 years the ’87 graduate of Texas Tech’s
Department of Landscape Architecture can list the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool
and the Mall Grounds among her work sites. more »
Meat Science Quiz Bowl Team takes third at Reciprocal Meat
Conference
Texas Tech’s Meat Science Quiz Bowl Team rolled to a third place finish last month at
the American Meat Science Association’s Reciprocal Meat Conference in Fargo, N.D.
“This group of students worked extremely hard and it showed in Fargo,” said Loni
Woolley, a meat science graduate student and one of the team’s coaches. more »

School

scientist Wayne Hudnall dies
at 66
Texas Tech is offering a special summer school class that focuses entirely on West
Texas’ most important agricultural crop – cotton. For two weeks during the height of
the summer season, the university’s students will be able to sign up for a nontraditional classroom experience known as the Texas International Cotton School.

NRM’s Zavaleta tapped for Fulbright U.S. Student Program Scholarship
A graduate student from Texas Tech’s Department of Natural Resources Management
has been selected to receive a scholarship from the Fulbright U.S. Student Program,
sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. Jennifer Zavaleta, a master’s student from
Irving, was accepted to go to Chile to perform a “Program Evaluation of Chile’s LongTerm Socio-Ecological Research Network.” more »
AEC’s Bogle honored by International Broadcasters IdeaBank in Ottawa
A senior from Texas Tech’s Department of Agricultural Education and Communications
has been selected to receive a prestigious 2012 International Broadcasters IdeaBank
Scholarship. Lauren Bogle of Dexter, NM, was notified of the $7,500 scholarship in May
at the group’s annual international meeting in Ottawa, Canada. more »
Salmonella-focused research poster takes first at Reciprocal Meat
Conference
A Texas Tech Department of Animal and Food Sciences doctoral student was awarded
first place June 18 in the Ph.D. division of the research poster contest at the 2012
Reciprocal Meat Conference in Fargo, N.D. Sara Gragg’s poster was titled, “Prevalence
and Characterization of Salmonella Recovered from Lymph Nodes and Feces of Cattle
at Harvest in Mexican Slaughter Facilities.” more »
