CASNR Advisory Board Gets New Look; New Members Come to the Table
Texas Tech’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources has a new Advisory Board,
featuring 15 new members from across the state. The mission of the board is to promote excellence
and innovation, and assist the college with strategic planning, provide feedback on current CASNR
activities and priorities, as well as strengthen and enhance its image and reputation. more »
Saddle Up; AFS Prof Aids in Selection of New Horse for Iconic Masked
Rider
It took Texas Tech’s Sam Jackson about three months and more than a dozen
candidates to find the perfect horse with the right attributes to replace Midnight
Matador for the university’s Masked Rider program. Midnight Matador was retired last
fall due to a health issue. more »
Texas Tech Judging Teams Shine at Denver’s National Western Stock
Show
Texas Tech’s judging teams scored two first place wins and a second place showing last
week at the National Western Stock Show in Denver. “These teams show the balance
and strength of the program we’re building at Texas Tech, said Mark Miller, Tech’s San
Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Distinguished Chair in Meat Science. more »
Recognition; Retired PSS Prof Receives AFGC Distinguished Grasslander
Award
Noted agroecosystem research scientist Vivien Allen has received the 2013
Distinguished Grasslander Award from the American Forage and Grassland Council. The
honor was presented at the group’s annual conference Jan. 6-9 in Covington, Kentucky.

Five students from Texas Tech’s College of Agriculture and Natural Resources will be
spending their spring semester working as interns in either the state or national capital.
Running from January through May, the college’s congressional spring intern program
affords selected students an opportunity to experience first-hand the government’s

Graduation; CASNR Students Featured at December Commencement
Ceremonies
More than 2,600 students Texas Tech students, including 100 from the College of
Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, received diplomas at the university’s
commencement ceremonies Saturday (Dec. 15) at the United Spirit Arena in Lubbock.

some consumers’ unwelcome discovery that just-purchased loaves contain mold,
reports the Associated Press today (Jan. 8). MicroZap Inc. claims its technology allows

NRM’s Le’Raven Clark Named to FWAA Freshman All-America Team
Texas Tech right guard Le’Raven Clark has been named to the Football Writer’s
Association of America’s Freshman All-America team. Clark, a native of Rockdale, is
majoring in fisheries biology at the university‘s Department of Natural Resources

Abidi Receives Chancellor’s Council Distinguished Teaching, Research
Award
Noureddine Abidi has been selected as the recipient of a Texas Tech University
Chancellor’s Council Distinguished Teaching and Research Award, university officials
announced today. Abidi is an associate professor with Tech’s Department of Plant and
Soil Science and head of university’s Biopolymer Research, Fiber and Biopolymer
