Team wins third consecutive
national
championship

meat judging Sunday (Nov. 17) at
the American Meat Science
Association’s International Meat
Judging Contest held in Dakota
City, Neb. It’s the third consecutive
year that Texas Tech has won the
title, making it only the second
university in the history of
intercollegiate meat judging to

Tech Livestock Judging Team
finishes season as reserve
national
champions
Texas Tech’s
Livestock Judging
Team was edged
out by 18 points at
the North American International
Livestock Exposition on Tuesday
(Nov. 19.) in Louisville, and
finished their season as Reserve
National Champions. The national
contest tested the contestants’
knowledge of cattle, sheep and
swine, as well as their oral

Gerald W. Thomas Outstanding Agriculturalist Awards on Thursday (Nov. 14) during its annual Pig Roast
at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center Banquet Hall. The Pig Roast also celebrates scholarship donors,

Water Conservation Advisory Council honors Floyd County’s Eddie
Teeter
Floyd County producer Eddie Teeter has been selected to receive the ‘Blue Legacy
Award in Agriculture’ from the Water Conservation Advisory Council, officials with the
Texas Alliance for Water Conservation announced today (Nov.8). The Blue Legacy
Award in Agriculture is an annual award that recognizes the outstanding water
conservation efforts and successes of the agriculture community. more »
Service Honored: Dan Krieg named to Plant & Soil Science Faculty Hall
of Fame
Noted agronomist and cotton plant physiologist Dan Krieg has been named to Texas
Tech University’s Department of Plant and Soil Science Faculty Hall of Fame. A
reception honoring Krieg was held on Friday (Oct. 11) in the Goddard Building,
honoring him as the fifth member to be added to the distinguished group. more »
Prime Time; Best beef money can buy used to train Tech’s AFS students
There are only a couple places on the South Plains where consumers can purchase
high-end prime beef. One of those is Texas Tech University. “We offer a USDA prime
Ribeye, and a USDA prime New York Strip,” said Tate Corliss, director of Raider Red

Meat judging team wins Cargill Meat Solutions Contest; Gears up for
nationals
Twenty-four points separated Texas Tech’s meat judging team from their nearest
competitor at the Cargill Meat Solutions’ Intercollegiate Meat Judging Contest on
Sunday (Nov. 3) in Friona. They posted a score of 4,102 points and won five divisions.

NRM’s Nita Scott receives Masked Rider Award at International
Cultural Center
Nita Scott, a four-year veteran staff member with Texas Tech’s Department of Natural
Resources Management, has been honored with a ‘Masked Rider Award’ from the
university’s offices of Chancellor and President. Officials indicated she was recognized
for her demonstrated “initiative for improving efficiencies through creativity,
innovation, flexibility and being an example for the university.” more »

International Agricultural Science and Technology Fellow. In this case, it’s Egypt’s Mahmoud Mohamed
Abdalla Mahmoud who’ll be spending three months alongside his Tech mentor, Theo Udeigwe, an

For The Record; CASNR Students named to 2013 Who’s Who Among
Students
Ten outstanding students from Texas Tech University’s College of Agricultural Sciences
and Natural Resources have been included in latest edition of “Who’s Who Among
Students in American Colleges and Universities,” according to school officials today.
The university hosted a special ‘2013 Who’s Who Recognition Reception’ last month at

Texas Tech Teaching Academy welcomes Brooks as new member from
CASNR
A top-flight faculty member from Texas Tech’s College of Agricultural Sciences and
Natural Resources has been inducted into the university’s elite Teaching Academy. The
academy was established to recognize excellence in teaching and to promote the
