The depletion of the Ogallala Aquifer has made headlines over the past several years and has been a
big concern to many who live on the Southern Great Plains region, including the Texas High Plains,
along with portions of Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico and Oklahoma. The aquifer encompasses more
than 170,000 square miles, making it a sizeable and vital water resource. more »
Added Accessibility; Historic Agricultural Science Building gets major
ADA upgrade
Texas Tech University’s Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics got a
significant modernization boost today (Jan. 14) with the opening a new two-level ramp
on the northeast corner of the historic building. Department Chairman Phillip Johnson
said the addition is part of a continuing effort to meet Americans with Disabilities Act
(ADA) regulations across the campus. more »
Tech’s Department of Natural Resources Management adds noted
mammalogist
Richard Stevens, a noted quantitative ecologist who’ll focus on spatial ecology and
conservation, has been named an associate professor in Texas Tech University’s
Department of Natural Resources Management, according to officials within the
College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. He officially stepped into his
new teaching and research post on Jan. 1. more »
‘The Agriculturist’ goes digital; AEC breaks new ground with new app
Digital publications – publications that can be downloaded via an app on tablets and
smartphones – are on the rise. Recognizing the growing trend, Texas Tech’s
Department of Agricultural Education and Communication is launching a mobile app
version for the Spring 2014 issue of The Agriculturist, its student-led magazine. more »
Jackson, Woolley tapped for Stockmen’s Educational Foundation Fellowships
Two standout students from Texas Tech’s Department of Animal and Food Sciences
have been selected to receive International Stockmen’s Educational Foundation Travel
Fellowships to the International Livestock Congress. The program gets underway on

CASNR colleague Moore receives major Texas A&M AgriLife excellence
award
A long-time friend and honoree of Texas Tech’s College of Agricultural Sciences and
Natural Resources has been presented the highest employee award given by Texas
A&M AgriLife. Jaroy Moore received the ‘Vice Chancellor’s Award in Excellence’ in the
administration category today (Jan. 9) at a special conference meeting on the Texas
A&M’s College Station campus. more »
Cool Commencement; CASNR students featured at December
ceremonies
More than 2,300 students Texas Tech students, including 114 from the College of
Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, received diplomas at the university’s
commencement ceremonies Saturday (Dec. 14) at the United Spirit Arena in Lubbock.

Texas Tech’s Meat Judging Team began their season with a 13-point victory, posting a
total team score of 4,076 points at the National Western Stock Show in Denver. The
team won the pork judging, specifications, and placing divisions. “I’m proud of the
consistency we have developed in our judging program here at Tech,” said Texas Tech’s
Mark Miller.
Wool Judging Team finishes second, third at National Western Stock
Show
Texas Tech’s Wool Judging Team finished a consistent second and third with their two
teams at the National Western Stock Show in Denver. In addition, the team had the top
three individuals in both the reasons and placing divisions. Individually, Tech had three
members finish in the top 10 overall. more »
Strong start for Tech’s Livestock Judging Team at National Western
Stock Show
Texas Tech’s Livestock Judging Team began their spring season with first and second
place finishes at the National Western Stock Show in Denver. In addition, the team won
the Collegiate Carload Contest – a contest unique to the show where participants
evaluate pens of cattle. more »
