
The area around Texas Tech University’s historic dairy barn is set for a facelift in the coming year, as the
university puts a major campus beautification project in gear. A portion of the$2.5 million project
includes a mixture of trees and walkways for the area between the dairy barn and the main library
building. Along with planting new trees, the project will also include new landscaping and will renovate
the irrigation system, lighting and walkways. Planting is expected wrap-up by the middle of March.

Temple Grandin heads speaker list for animal welfare meeting at Texas
Tech
Texas Tech’s Department of Animal and Food Sciences hosted a mini-symposium
featuring presentations on beta agonists and animal welfare on Feb. 18 at the Texas
Tech Club. Beta agonists are feed additives used to increase cattle and pig growth,
improve efficiency and lower the livestock carbon footprint. more »
Livestock Judging Team wins Ft. Worth’s Southwestern Livestock
Exposition
Texas Tech’s livestock judging team brought home its first win of the season this week
as they walked away with top honors Saturday (Feb. 8) at the Southwestern Livestock
Exposition’s Livestock Judging Contest in Fort Worth. Texas Tech won the horse, sheep,
swine and reasons divisions, and were second in beef. more »
AAEC alumnus named new director of National Business Aviation
Association
A 1974 graduate of Texas Tech’s Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics has
been named the new director of National Business Aviation Association. The selection
of Jim Schwertner was made by the Washington, DC-based organization’s board of
Aggie of the Month –

Landscape Architecture spotlighted in WreckShop, First Friday Art Trail

Texas Tech University’s Department of Landscape Architecture is hosting two
coordinated events later this week on the main university campus. Among the
highlights are the department’s first annual WreckShop, an event organized for
students and alumni to interact in an informal workshop environment. more »
Department of Animal and Food Sciences utilizes new iCEV teaching
technology
A new program developed by a former Texas Tech professor is currently being
implemented for various courses within the Department of Animal and Food Sciences
at Texas Tech University. CEV Multimedia, founded by Gordon W. Davis, recently
released iCEV, an online product for educators and students at both the high school

Novel Ag Pals program provides incoming students with guidance,
friendship
Coming from a town with a population of less than 20,000 to Tech – where the fall
enrollment was more than 33,000 – can make some students feel intimidated. The
College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources has been helping with this
transition for more than 10 years with its Ag Pals program. more »
Misra selected as Texas Tech’s Associate Vice Provost for International
Programs
Officials at Texas Tech University announced last month that Sukant Misra will become
Associate Vice Provost of International Programs effective Feb 1. Misra’s new duties
include increasing international enrollment, promoting international development,
research and funding, and promoting a greater integration of matters that affect
international academic programs. more »
Texas Tech Meat Judging Team wins at Southwestern Livestock
Exposition
Texas Tech enjoyed a 23-point victory at the Southwestern Livestock Exposition’s
Intercollegiate Meat Judging Contest in Fort Worth today (Feb. 3). The team also won
several divisions, including reasons, total beef, beef judging, lamb judging and pork
judging. more »
