Each month, In the Spotlight features a different MVP Team Member so you can get to know us better! Amanda Phillips Amanda is a MVP Program Specialist and our featured team member for April 2016. Amanda has worked in the MVP office since September 2015, and she has enjoyed having the opportunity to help her fellow veterans utilize their benefits. She is originally from Alamogordo, NM and joined the United States Navy in 2009. She served six years as a CTI (Cryptologic Interpretive) specializing in Mandarin Chinese. She attended the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA, and after completing the Mandarin Chinese program there, she was stationed at NIOC Hawaii on the island of Oahu for four years. After finishing her six year active duty obligation in July 2015, Amanda transitioned to the Navy Selective Reserves (SELRES) and is drilling out of Fort Worth, TX. She also decided to come to Texas Tech University to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. After completing her BS, Amanda plans to attend the Molecular Pathology program at TTU in the hopes of eventually getting into the field of Forensic Science. In her spare time, Amanda enjoys spending time outdoors with her Golden Retriever, Aisling. She also enjoys travelling and photography. She is planning a two week trip to Greece this summer before she attends her five week Mandarin Chinese language refresher course for the Reserves. The Archive of Modern American Warfare at Texas Tech University collects records that document American military conflicts during the period 1975 to the present, with a concentration on Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, the Global War on Terrorism, Operations Provide Relief and Restore Hope, the Kosovo War, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Interviews for Military to College Transition Study "Looking for college students who have prior military experience to participate in a study about the transition process from military to college. This study is completely voluntary. Due to the topic of this research, volunteers must have prior military service before making the decision to attend college; however, there are no other limitations required for participation in this study. You will be asked to answer interview questions in regards to your feelings, experiences, stories, etc. Each participant is asked to set aside 25-30 minutes of their time for the interview.
