Modeling the Melt: what math tells us about the disappearing polar ice caps Public Lecture 4:45 PM, Monday, July 21, 2014 Room L104, Warnock Engineering Building (WEB) SPEAKER - Kenneth Golden, Department of Mathematics, University of Utah TITLE - Modeling the Melt: what math tells us about the disappearing polar ice caps SUMMARY -- The precipitous loss of Arctic sea ice has far outpaced expert predictions. In this lecture Dr. Golden will explore the mathematical underpinnings of this mystery and take us (via video) on an Antarctic expedition. This lecture is part of the Thirteenth International Conference on Continuum Models and Discrete Systems being held at the University of Utah, July 21-25, 2014. Sponsored in part by National Science Foundation Grant DMS-143421.
