All youth leading healthy lifestyles
Mission
To increase and maintain physical activity among tweens
(9-13 year olds).
Need
According to CDC’s Youth Risk Behavior Survey data, 32%
of high school students in the U.S. attend physical education
classes daily, down from 42% in 1991. Decreasing physical
activity, together with unhealthy eating, has resulted in a
tripling of the percentage of children and adolescents who are
overweight over the past 20 years. Emerging trends of Type 2
diabetes in youth may be one of the first consequences of the
epidemic of obesity in youth.
•
Grassroots events that encourage youth to discover
activities that lead to physical activity and healthy
lifestyles.
•
Partnerships with corporations that have a similar
messages and goals as well as entertainment media
popular with youth and their influencers.
•
Youth involvement in the campaign strategies and
messages.
•
Continual evaluation of the short- and long-term impact
of the campaign.
