Need According to CDC’s Youth Risk Behavior Survey data, 32% of high school students in the U.S. attend physical education classes daily, down from 42% in 1991. Decreasing physical activity, together with unhealthy eating, has resulted in a tripling of the percentage of children and adolescents who are overweight over the past 20 years. Emerging trends of Type 2 diabetes in youth may be one of the first consequences of the epidemic of obesity in youth. • Grassroots events that encourage youth to discover activities that lead to physical activity and healthy lifestyles. • Partnerships with corporations that have a similar messages and goals as well as entertainment media popular with youth and their influencers. • Youth involvement in the campaign strategies and messages. • Continual evaluation of the short- and long-term impact of the campaign.
