§  About 7,000 Drexel students take online courses each
term; over 13,000 take at least one online or hybrid
course each year
§  Over 600 courses/sections are online each term
§  Average 2,500 online courses/sections per year
(over 140 degree or certificate programs offered online)
§  Online students are primarily adult working
professionals in their 30’s. However, more on-campus
students are registering for online courses

National Distance Learning Week
•  During the 2015 National Distance Learning Week in November,
we held six different events around campus for faculty & staff.
•  Events were:
•  Professional development lunch & learns on Writing Effective
Learning Objectives and Creating Course Templates
•  A Quality Matters virtual workshop to help faculty master best
practices in online course design
•  Keynote speaker Robbie Melton who demoed some wearable smart
technologies for our faculty during her presentation on the Internet
of Things
•  The OLC Collaboratory event showcasing emerging technologies &
innovation at Drexel. There were 12 faculty and instructional
designers who presented their collaborations in technology
enhanced learning.
National Distance Learning Week
•  We had 165 people registered across the university for NDLW
events, and it was one of the largest participation numbers for
Drexel’s National Distance Learning Week.
•  Thank you to all who participated in the celebration of distance
learning at Drexel!

§  Partnership: Drexel Libraries and Drexel University Online
§  Faculty opportunity to enhance learning with technology
§  College Library Liaisons, working with instructional designers, will
survey faculty about emerging technology trends
§  Equipment available through the Drexel Libraries lending system
§  Inspire website
§  Library liaisons/instructional designers are available to discuss
possible uses of technology in each learning situation
§  Technical support is provided by Drexel University Online’s Office
at techlend@drexel.edu

of quality for online programs.

plugins to determine Drexel’s future needs.
Challenge: Expand the value proposition of the OLC to deans,
program directors, and college administrators.
Challenge: Creating an effective faculty support model that
addresses faculty needs.
Challenge: Defining faculty release time, credit, and
compensation for
developing an online course.
