BC Arts Festival
“What Does Your Garden Grow?”
A collaborative art exhibition
Exhibition Description:
Imagine you are standing at the gate to your garden. What does your garden grow?
Is your garden inspired by music, dance, poetry, nature, politics, etc? What do you see? What would you like
to see? Artists are challenged to imagine that they are standing at the gate to their garden looking in at the
world they are growing.
Artists will receive a 6’x’9 canvas to create their own “garden” in a mural that will be installed on the Gasson
construction fence facing the O’Neill Library. The exhibition will consist of a series of murals – creating a
garden on O’Neill Plaza for the festival.
Seminar and Workshop in Collaborative Art:
Mid-March – 90 minute seminar
In preparation for the exhibition, one 90 minute seminar will be conducted by Fine Arts Professor and project
advisor, Mark Cooper. During the seminar, student teams will learn more about collaborative art and discuss
and explore options for developing their own murals. Additionally, participants will decide together how
they would like to carry the theme, content, and imagery through the entire exhibition. At least one
representative from each group should attend the seminar. The date and time of the seminar will be decided
based on participating teams’ availability.
Artists’ Weekend Workshop: April 1 and 2
Professor Mark Cooper will lead the teams at the start of the workshop to help them with technique and
continuing to develop their theme. The workshop will be supervised by Exhibition Coordinator Kristie
Loncich, but teams will have creative control over their murals. The times for the workshop are not yet
confirmed. Artists must complete their murals during this time.
