Lab#4: Projectile Motion
Theory: Define projectile and projectile motion. What is angle of elevation? What is the
acceleration of a projectile? Write down equations for position and velocity for vertical
and horizontal motion. What is time of flight? What is range?
Experiment:
• Set the elevation angle at 30°.
• Mark the origin of the experiment’s coordinate system on the table just bellow
“Launch Position of the Ball” mark (see the picture bellow).
• Measure Y0
• Cock the launcher using plastic ram rod (1 click only) and load the ball.
• Launch the ball by pulling yellow cord.
• Record V0 measured by Data Studio and Xmax directly using meter stick. This is
Xmax-exp
• Repeat 4 more times.
Calculations:
•
•
Calculate time of flight Ttof for each run.
Calculate Xmax-calc for each run using
•
•
•
Xmax= V0·cosθ·Ttof
Calculate average Xmax-calc and δXmax-calc
Calculate average Xmax-exp and δXmax-exp
Compare the two.
