SMOV Status & Planning Meeting Notes 8/04/09 - Summary -- A battery rate-of-charge (ROC) violation occurred on Aug. 3. - Observatory Status - A change to the ROC limit to accommodate the post-SM4 power environment, which now includes NCS, is recommended. WFC3 SMOV calibrations and analyses are ongoing with nominal early results. COS wavecals and image acquisition testing are continuing, also with nominal results so far. The COS ERO may be degraded due to a guidestar acq problem: investigation is underway. The STIS NUV high-voltage ramp-up failed due to excessive dark current. An intercept SMS that will effect a higher dark-current threshold for high-voltage ramping will be produced in order to recover the rest of this week’s NUV operations. The higher dark current is believed to result from unexpectedly high window glow. The FUV is operating nominally. The NICMOS NCS restart attempt on Saturday morning succeeded and the NCS is currently cooling down the NICMOS dewar. o EPS (SKrol) A battery rate-of-charge (ROC) violation occurred at 215/1230. Due large vehicle maneuver and SA slew o Aggravated by Increased load of new/recovered SIs NCS operation ROC limit-change is under consideration For details, see the attached ROC Limit Violation 215-09 o Also contains analysis of increased load due to NCS operation Post-SM4 power analysis is underway o All other subsystems nominal SI Status o o WFC3 Science (SDuestua) Ongoing analyses for o 11552, Characterization of the WFC3 IR Grisms o 11447, WFC3 IR Background o 11426, WFC3 UVIS Contamination Monitor o Preliminary results all look nominal o For details, see the attached WFC3_SMOV_03Aug2009 COS Science. TKeyes NUV/FUV external wavecals and NUV imaging acquisition testing are ongoing o All acquisition tests recover target to within nominal 0.1 arcsec uncertainties o Wavecal analyis results are nominal No encoder position adjustments necessary For more COS details, see the attached COS_SMOV_update_4August2009 o FGS/OTA HSTAR 11963 – an initial guidestar acq failure occurred at 215/1635 2nd acq attempt succeeded May have resulted in partial data loss of COS ERO 11508 COS/ERO team to investigate the science files o Determine if a repeat is necessary o ACS o o - - STIS ACS SMOV is complete. Science. CProffitt Normal NUV HV ramp-up on day 214 failed o dark current exceeded 15000 c/s during final stages of HV ramp-up o This was a suspected risk (mentioned in July 31 Notes) Due to apparently larger-than-expected window glow o For Wednesday’s and next week’s visits an intercept SMS will be produced To reset the ramping limit from 15000 OR counts/s to 25000 OR counts/s for the NUV MAMA Should prevent additional HV ramp up failures and lost observations o For more details, see the attached 08-04-09 Snapshot NICMOS/NCS NCS Restart attempt Succeeded on Saturday ~ 213/10:00 NCS is now cooling the NICMOS dewar o At nominal rate/efficiency P&S Status o Calendar/SMS builds SMS222 is built Built in continuity with SMS215 Intercept (See replans, below) Oversubscription (mentioned in July 31 Notes) o Dealt with by delaying WFC3 pointing stability check to the 229. SMS229 work will start on Thursday o Replans SMS215 Intercept to allow higher STIS NUV dark-current limit Delivered Operations o o FOT Nominal PACOR Nominal No fastrack activities o OPUS (TEllis) Processed the two Q/S split COS exposures (la8122eb and labp01e6) by having PACOR-A resend the Q part of each exposure as S versions. In the next 24 hours we will be fast-tracking data for COS proposals 11474 and 11475 An Ops request was submitted to document that no offsets will be needed for the three "use offset" genslews scheduled this week for several COS proposals. o Archive Nominal Non-discosure agreement signed by 13 of 14 PIs Whose GO proposals completed by July 31 Access to their data HAS BEEN enabled Information provided by Herb Kennedy
