SMOV Status & Planning Meeting Notes 7/09/09 - Summary: STIS suspended again during attempted MIE Checkout and Recovery. Analysis is underway and plans for recovery in time for next week’s STIS activities are being discussed. WFC3 IR alignment/focus is nearing completion with good results. The UVIS alignment mechanism is showing some non-linearity (or settling); the need for any further adjustment is under discussion. COS target acq modes have been determined to be working correctly, but the aperture mechanism commanding used in the NUV alignment activity needs to be modified to properly carry out relative motion steps. An intercept SMS is being prepared to accommodate both the need for a realtime STIS recovery and the opportunity to repeat the COS visits with updated aperture mechanism commanding. ACS functional/internals are progressing well, but part of the external CTE Monitor was lost to a guidestar reacq failure during the night. Plans for restart of the NICMOS Cooling System will be discussed at an ops briefing today. - Observatory Status o PCS/SAC Nominal o EPS o o o - TCS I&C DMS Nominal Nominal Nominal Nominal o 486FSW Nominal o SAFING Nominal o SIC&DH & P/L FSW Status Nominal B-side operation continues Forward Plan Nothing to report SI Status o WFC3 Engineering Status o Proceeding with UVIS/IR alignments and detector internals Science: JMackenty o COS IR alignment/focus o Repeat of Visit 1 focus sweep occurs today Expect confirmation of successful alignment UVIS alignment o Focus moves showed some settling/non-repeatability o Focus is established (at 2.5micron offset) with some uncertainty Analysis ongoing Need to decide if currently achieved focus is OK or additional work is required (timescale is 2+ weeks) Mechanisms and detector internals o Analyses ongoing Some evidence of some filter-wheel shift For more details on all the above, see the attached WFC3_SMOV_Science_9July Engineering Status o Operate / FUV Operate / NUV HVSAA o NUV Alignment and Focus Part 6 (Visit 6R) occurred at 189/15:51 UTC o NUV Alignment and Focus Part 7 (Visit 7R) occurred at 189/17:12 UTC o Some issues with aperture mechanism movement (See below) Science. It was quickly determined that the exposure routines could be modified to avoid the home commands, and used in the next SMS (See Planning & Scheduling, below) – cpb o Target acq modes (Acq/image, acq/search, acq/peakxd) o Analysis has determined that all three modes are functioning properly Only acq/peakd not yet tested For more details, see the attached COS report 08Jul09 o FGS/OTA A guidestar reacquisition failed at 190/08:35:52Z (HSTAR 11923) Affected last two exposures of ACS External CTE Monitor (11510) Secondary Mirror Move Plans for a 3-micron move around day 201 (July 20) o presented at a dedicated meeting yesterday, July 8 plans were agreed to o For rationale and description, see the attached MirrorMove2009 ML 08JUL09 ACS Image Quality and PSF Check (11379) Executed last evening SIAF (aperture location) process has started, on the basis of this data o ACS o STIS Engineering Status o Operate / WFHROper Science. Arslanian, 07/09/09, 3:10am) During Ops. Request 18599 to verify the functionality of the STIS MIE and recover STIS to Operate mode, STIS Suspended due to a STIS STB 100 “Invalid CS FSW Mode for more than 10 minor frames”. This occurred after STIS was transitioned from Suspend to Operate and initial polling of the MIE Status. Error was reported during attempted transfer of MIE RAM Memory to STIS CS Buffer RAM using macro OMIE2RAM. STIS CS Memory was then dump via Ops. Request 18608. The data was processed and delivered to OPUS without any problems. o OPUS We processed the 3 STIS memory dumps that errored in generic conversion o by manually populating the OHSTTIME keyword in dvx files. We received 3 more of these this morning, with the same error, o the same workaround will be used for them. Wednesday morning, we found that 4 ACS datasets from proposal 11369 errored due to missing dark reference files. The uncalibrated files for these were FTPed to the ACS team. Overnight 2 COS exposures for fast-track proposal 11469 failed during housekeeping database table updates but the files were fast-tracked and archived. We have fast-track data coming for WFC3 proposal 11435 in the next 24 hours. Archive Nominal
